Picked up a juwel rio 125 last week. Comes with filter and heater.

Couple of questions.

Any UK fishy forums as useful, and as random, as bcf?

It’s going to be freshwater and I’m planning on coldwater as goldfish seem more petlike.

However, views on cold verses warm?

What sort of stock level can you get in a 125L / 33G ? Some sites say that’s enough for two goldfish?????

Don’t mind a demanding tank to look after as I’ve got a pond and work in the water industry so I’m pretty clued up on biochemistry and water in general.

Any thoughts?

www.fishcrazy.co.uk - Top forum, will help you with any questions you have, nicest forum I've come across on the net full stop. (well it was, haven't been on in ages)

Go tropical I say. Yes, perhaps as you raise the temperature, there's more chances of fish catching diseases but so long as you keep the water in good condition and feed them well you should be fine.

Not overly sure what sort of fish you can get in a rio 125 (hate juwel tanks myself, cheaply made crap, I really really despise that company for the amount they messed me about)

125l is enough for a good few fish, I think my tank is 160l or so and I have maybe 14" of fish in there. Or more. In my opinion, just use your head, if it looks overpacked, then it probably is.

Get the tank set up and leave the water and filter to mature for a couple of weeks.

the rule is that 1 litre for 1cm worth of fish, so you can have an amount of fish of which's total length is 125cm. I have a coldwater tank (60litres), and keep shubunkin in it, they're very nice and vary a lot in colours. But remember, the more fish you have in it of the same species, a few will probs get killed, and given time they will breed, a lot. Oh, and dont over fill the tank as the fish will grow quite a bit (fully grown coldwater fish can be at least 6 inches).
Good Luck.

edit: Just like to point out that i used to keep tropical fish in the tank but they aren't hardy at all, the slightest little thing wrong and they just die, if they get a disease, they don't even put up a fight. If you are determined on getting tropical though, don't get the weeney ones, go for summat bigger, like Gourami (they look very nice, but can be a bastard as they are bullys, they are meant to be kept in a certain ratio of males to females, ... but seeing as there is no way of sexing the fish, the chances are that some will kill each other.)
