| Quote: | NOT many love stories begin with the words: "I walked into the death house and saw a man and my whole world came to a halt in that moment."
This extraordinary documentary meets six women who have fallen in love with men serving life sentences - including Saira Ali Ahmed who, in June 2001, married the man dubbed Britain's most dangerous prisoner, Charles Bronson.
Then there's 54-year-old Val Alderton from Essex who became pen-pals with men on death row.
A couple of the stories really grab your heart. Former prison officer Tameika Green tells how she lost her job when her bosses found love letters she had written to an inmate on death row. By that time she was also pregnant with his child, but Edward Green was executed on October 5 last year.
And former TV reporter Jodie Bell met convicted murderer Billy Wayne Sinclair when she was working on a story at Angola prison in Louisiana. Their first meeting was captured on video and you could power up the electric chair from the sparks flying between them. More than 20 years later, Jodie's still hoping the man she married will one day get parole |
One more
I cant understand why a women, or man, can see the attraction in a mass murderer.
Do they actually want to be left in the room alone with them? Would you sleep with one eye open after an argument, or hide the cutlery and knives [/quote] ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

I'm sure not every woman who sets out to write to or commune with Death Row (or indeed any) prisoners intends to fall in love with them.
Certainly, there are some sicko's out there who fancy "dining out" on stories of their boyfriend who is banged up on a Murder 1 charge. The Jerry Springer mentality sets in quite quickly on those types.
Its not easy to be in love with someone who may (or may not) have murdered somebody. Its a terribly difficult thing to justify whether or not you can live with the thought that their hands may have taken somebody else's life, and you have to consider very carefully how you feel about such a thing.
No doubt many of the women who fall for these type of (Death Row) men simply believe whatever the man says about what happened, listens to their sob story about how they were so hard-done-by, and blindly forgives them or believes whatever they are told. I think its those women's duty to themselves to examine very carefully what they are told by "their men".
Or a woman in such a circumstance can just accept that they have done that wrong to somebody else ... and try to look past that to the man behind the murderer. You have to look long and hard at yourself and decide whether the man behind the murder is in fact one who is worthy of your affection or your time.
There is a very interesting book entitled "Women who love men who murder" (or something like that). I read it ages ago. Very interesting, eye opening, thought provoking, etc.
One certainly doesn't sit around wondering whether they are going to do you in while you are asleep, or crack you one over the head when your back is turned. Often those people have acted on impulse and regret their actions. But time can't be turned back. Many of them, even on Death Row, regret what happened, why they are there.
Death Row Groupies are a strange bunch, but there are women (and men) out there who understand the pressure that living in prison brings (whether on Death Row or whether just banged up in general) and how even a letter from a stranger can mean a lot to someone with nothing to do for 23 hours a day except look at other men, and wonder whether they are capable of nutting you over a misunderstanding about a bag of crisps.
Prison's not an easy place to be. My opinion (unpopular amongst those I hang out with) is that those who end up in there are either stupid enough to do the crime, stupid enough to get caught, or stupid enough to take the rap for somebody else. I risk prison time through the job I sometimes do, but its a risk I take. I would hope that if I was banged up, my family and friends would be in contact with me as best they could. But I know if someone with a little humanity contacted me in a spirit of cameraderie (after my initial suspicion as to why they were doing it, LOL) ... I would be very pleased for the humanity of regular letters, even from a stranger. There are many people whose families leave them to it.
Oh dear, I'm running on a bit ...
Best go make a cup of coffee and shut up now, LOL.
