I bought these off eBay, as they were the cheapest around, basically!

I have a problem though. I try to burn stuff (either data or DVD video) from my laptop but they won't work! It gets 1% into organising stuff before burning, and then just sits there making a noise in the drive. I know the drive works, as I burnt a VCD to check this and it worked, plus I bought some Maxell from Virgin and they worked fine.

These DVDs burn fine in my standalone DVD recorder from TV, but they just don't want to work in the laptop drive.

Did I buythe wrong kind? Can anyone help me out?

As I say, they still work in my DVD recorder, surely this means they should work OK as discs?

The burner suppsoedly records DVD+, DVD- and DVD RAM. I'm no expert, I assume these are either + or -?

TDK(GOOD), Verbatim(GOOD), Datawrite(SKETCHY), Bulkpaq(CHEAP TURD), Memorex(TURD), Hyundai(TURD)

try burning at a lower speed mate. laptop drivers are picky for burning disks. you generally need to use good disks to burn at full speed. using likes of ritek, certain tdk disks, tayiouden disks are pretty good aswell.

or go to https://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and try updating your firmware

What make is the DVD writer? If you look up the drive model on the manufacturers website it should give you a list of tested discs and the speeds the drive can write to them.
