Rightyho, I've found a 2002 Honda CG125.....the problem is the blooming electric start doesnt work on it. The person says 'all good bikers should kick start' - but will I be able to kick start on it?? Or will I need to wait to stick it through it's mot and get the problem fixed?

I am a bit of a wally when it comes to this. I can ride bikes....but when it comes to mechanical stuff I'm hopeless.

If there's an electric start and it doesn't work, expect a load of money off. All good bikers should kick start - what bollox!
Chances are it's something simple, like a relay failed, but it may be more serious and expensive to put right. The fact he's selling it without fixing it may well point to the latter.
If it was me, unless it was so cheap it couldn't be turned down, I'd find another one that did work.

If you are serious about buying it ask him to sort the problem first.If he cant/wont then i would walk away. Plenty more bikes out there. Dont rush into anything silly. Thumbs Up

Yeah, ask him what it is. If he says' oh it's just something simple' tell him to sort it before you buy, and you'll pay his costs. (Of course, you'll have haggled him down considerably more on the actual cost.) Twisted Evil

Apparently it has an electric start and a kick start (combo). I'm going to get it if it goes really cheap (it's on ebay) I don't mid spending a little bit on it, just as long as it doesnt cost an arm and a leg. The centre stand is broken too apprently, the person says it will cost about 200-300 to get thru mot. I'm just thinking if it goes for say 350 I will get it, as I figure this is still a good buy. I'm only 5ft 2 and it's a small bike so hopefully it will be ideal for me. Here's thel ink if anyone wants to check it out.

I'd look for another one.

Centrestands and electric starters are expensive items.

I didn't think the CG125 came in black.

Find another bike, 21,000 miles, indicator held together with tape, electric starter not working, centre stand (VERY useful and not cheap) missing...

It does seem like it hasn't been looked after, at all - even abused. If he won't spend money on important things, he certainly won't have bothered going to the expense of servicing it!
There are other bikes suitable for the shorter of stature and available in good condition for no more than what it would cost you to buy that and get it sorted!
Walk away, there will almost certainly be other problems he "forgot" to mention, or "didn't know about" . . . .

Thanks, I just thought if it was not going to be that much to buy these items I'd be as well to get it, as it's relatively recent. How much do centre stands cost, out of interest? Does anyone know?

Older CGs didn't have an electric start - they are pretty easy bikes to start compared to many.

I broke the centre stand off mine because it kept touching down and got a bit bent.

You don't really /need/ a cg center stand, but can't see it being a lot from a breakers.

Indeed - it's propped up against a wall in the pictures, and has no side stand.

Why anyone would pay over £400 for that bike is beyond me, there's so much wrong with it.

He says its does 220m on £7 of petrol, best ive got is 140m and that was just town use Confused

Town use tends to be worse. Lots of accelerating, then slowing, the accelerating again. Bike ticking over in traffic while you're not moving, etc.

Sitting at a steady 50mph in top gear, say, would probably give pretty good miles per gallon

Hmm, Ive yet to commute every day, most i did was twice a week oct-jan, 8 miles a trip.
