Hi can anbody tell me how long these points stay on a provisional?
the code the have written is "cd10" its is only written in pen aswell.

But they havn sent any info back with his liscense to state how long they will remain valid.

How do i find out how long they will remain on his liscense because he is worried that doing his full test now will resault in a ban or revoke because the "cd10" is for 6 points.

Any help guys please.

Four years, I had one of those many moons ago, undue care and attention eh? They stay on the licence for the same amount of time as a speeding offence.

I believe that you have to do a retest if you have gained the points after a test pass not before.

Fairly sure he can just take the test as it's a previous offence, might be worth giving a riding school a call to confirm though.

Hi

They have an effect on the licence for 3 years but cannot come off for 4 years.

If he does his test then he will not get a ban immediatly. However ANY points at all in the 2 years after his test will result in his licence being revoked.

Basically what triggers the revokation of licence is getting points after your test which leaves the total above 6.

All the best

Keith

From the DSA site.

Quote:
New Drivers Act
This affects you if you first passed your driving test on or after 1 June, 1997.

If you reach six or more penalty points within two years of passing your driving test (ie during the probationary period), the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will automatically revoke your driving licence when notified by a court or fixed penalty office.

To regain your full licence you must then:
obtain a provisional licence
drive as a learner
pass the theory and practical test again

Penalty points counting towards the total of six include any you incurred before passing the test, as long as the offence took place not more than three years before the latest penalty point offence.

Points imposed after the probationary period will also count if the offence was committed during that period. Passing the retest does not remove penalty points from your licence, and if the total reaches 12, you are liable to be disqualified by a court.

The AA site;

Quote:
All endorsable offences and disqualifications will be recorded on your driving licence. Although penalty points only count for 'totting up' purposes for three years, longer periods must pass before you can apply to the DVLA to have them removed from the licence (and a fee is payable).

For endorsements the period is four years from the date of the offence, and for disqualifications four years from the date of conviction. Note: for certain Drink Driving offences the period is 11 years from the date of conviction.

ive had one of those cd10 thingies, doing a bit of racing 1 night, cut across a roundabout (technically the wrong way), then through 2 no entry signs, didnt notice the copper behind me.

it started off as dangerous driving but they reduced it when i got to court as it was well lit roundabout with no other road users inconvenienced.
the points stayed on for 5 years but i still had to confess to insurance for another year after that.

ive learned by my mistakes and have a clean licence now Smile
