Lack of confidence

i dropped my bike on the first day and as a result am a little wary of going out on it.

I know everyone drops their bike eventually i just think i am unlucky dropping it on my first day which has affected my confidence on the bike.

I rented a bike from my riding school when I was learning. About ten minutes down the road I was practising turning in the road when I just fell over. I've never been more embarrassed in my life. Thing is to just get back on and not worry about it. When I took the bike back I told the instructor what happened and he said that everyone he knows has done the same or similar at some point and not to worry about it. He also said it might count as my 'accident' which would be a nice one to get away with. Very Happy

Was it at speed, slow stuff, U turn?

Fear is a good thing when learning or new, it stops you being too over confident.

I've been riding for a couple of months now, and only recently have I started to 'play' with cars and get slightly cocky, but thats just because my confidence in my riding ability is growing. The fear of a fall is still in the back of my mind Wink

Ive nearly dropped my CBR more times that i wish to think about, mainly doing u turns Laughing

But after i dropped my old ZXR (didnt scratch it Confused

) you can tell when a bike is likely do fall and have plenty of time to stop it.

Everyone drops their bike at some point. I doubt there's many on BCF who haven't. It's all part of the learning process.

Get some crash bungs if you can, could save you a lot of hassle and money.

i was goin about 2pmh braking towards a junction which had some loose gravel on it. and because it was dark i didnt spot it.

sucks when you drop you bike that you paid so much for doesn't it Sad

but..... it's all good when you can get it 100% fixed for £90 (ish) lol Laughing

Dropped mine at the w/e, cocked up a U turn. Picked it up, dusted the old girl down the rode off. No damage Thumbs Up

The wind nearly blew me off balance when I was stationary at traffic lights, but you get used to the weight of the bike, and you how far it'll go before it meets tarmac.

Before I knew this, I dropped my bike when turning it Embarassed

When the weight goes, there aint a lot to do to stop it. Grabbing the handlebar stopped more damage than happened, but the clutch lever got pretty bent Crying or Very sad

If you feel the bike starting to tip then accelerate. This might not be you instictive reaction but it will pick the bike up.

M8 count yourself lucky that its your first as it will happen again, don't let it put you off. We all come off our bikes, drop them hate them but love them.

You just have to get back one and start riding it, i dropped mine the other day when i was icy doing about 2mph turning into a petrol station, felt so embarrassed Laughing

£50 is what the dealers have charged me to replace the cracked panel, which has slightly annoyed me as i have now found out you can get them for about £10 on ebay.

As everyone is saying, don't let it knock your confidence to much mate. dropped mine this morning doing about 8mph on an icy bit towards the end of my road, i was lucky, come away with a slightly scratched clutch lever and a snapped indicator cover, no paintwork damage or nothing Surprised

Only way to build your confidence is to get back out on it! Very Happy

I got rammed off by a car on my first day, got back up, carried on Laughing

Then I crashed again and kind of thought "what am I doing wrong here?"

As a result, I'm now way more cautious, infact I haven't even overtaken anything since my last off. I don't feel like I've lost confidence, just mellowed a bit.

I was always pretty "nice" on my bike - flash people out of junctions, wave pedestrians across (when safe to), but I still did push it a bit on braking from speed and speed in inappropriate areas (not through towns etc, just twisty roads in bad conditions), and now I've changed that Thumbs Up

Don't worry about a slow drop, I know it's gutting (I dropped my NSR before I was even insured on it, in my garage Mad

) you'll learn from it and it's not really a "crash" as such.

Get back on it and have fun Wink

Ever since I came off at a roundabout, my confidence in leaning my bike into a turn (especially on a roundabout) has been knocked. I find my self getting tense whilst mid turn.

Although I am now regaining my confindence in leaning into turns! Which is good.

That's it though mate, you never know if they're about to pull out anyway so you slow right down.. by the time you've composed yourself, got the right gear and stuff they might as well have gone anyway.

Sorry to hear about that accident, sounds quite nasty, and it's a bit of an eye opener!

I've stopped being so friendly now because I'm paranoid about stopping on the road, after I ran into the back of a stopped 4x4. Your accident strengthens this fear a bit Neutral

I dropped my new bike at some traffic lights once. If it wasn't embarrasing enough i had to ask the bloke in the car behind to help me pick it up again. It was just too heavy. I can still imagine him having a good laugh at the poor weak girl on the big bike.

dont worry lol i came off my bike on my first day on it like 5 mins after getting on it, Gave it an extra handfull of front brake (panicked) and just before i came to work ( few weeks ago) i fell off again!! fucking greasy shitty road argh it pains me to think about it oh well never mind
