More black paint!

(If your thinking of farings and tanks then probably not, but for small metal items such as footpeg hangers e.t.c. imo sometimes its much less effort to get it clean then hammerite over the top, especially with items that get covered in dirt often)

Methylated spirits will get the shit off. Then use t-cut to smooth the lacquer. After that, any household polish will do. And lots of it!

T-CUT my arse Thumbs Down

NO NO NO don't use it, its a cutting agent with a high amonia content. You need a wax build up Meguires GOLD or Mr Sheene will do the job without fail.. If you can't do it then bring it to Squires on 2nd April and i'll do it for you.

Exactly, avoid T-Cut. I reckon Mer polish is the best stuff out there.
