I've just started my new job (as a trainee fingerprint officer woohoo!) and I'm currently commuting through to Glasgow from Stirling. I've never had to commute to work before and am struggling to get used to the extra early mornings! I was just curious about other people's commutes to work.... is work just down the road? Or is it 2hrs away from your house? Do you mind commuting? Do you take the bike or some other form of transport?

When I have to go to work and then do the same route to pick up and / or drop off son at nursery, I am glad its only a 10 minute journey in the car.

When going by bike, I wish the journey was longer Crying or Very sad

When I take the bike, it's about 20min.

When I take the bus, as I have to this week as the bike is sick, it takes about 60min, or sometimes, as today, it can take 1h 45min. Evil or Very Mad

Guess which I prefer. Rolling Eyes

About Fifteen minutes.

The only problem is my bike doesn't want to turn right at the estate entrance, it wants to keep going.

To ride off into the sun and piss about all day.

Hi,

From Home to work is 2 hours but I stay in digs during the week when is about 10m.

It's a complete pain I dont mind commuting up to an hour but over that I find to much to do everyday.

It can get really cold on the bike although my new heatpax help but it costs a fortune to park the car as Sheffield council are busy selling carparks for blocks of plays to be built on (cost 9.60 today Evil or Very Mad )

Regards
C

A slight variation on the same theme:

It costs me £12 per week for petrol and a 35 min ride on the bike, and £12 per day and 2 hours travelling time if I take public transport.

It entitely depends on how fast I go.

I can get from where I live (northalleton North Yorkshire - Middlesbrough - Cleveland) which is about 25 miles all in all in less than 15 mins or about 25.

Im commuting on my ZX6R too. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Used to spend 90minutes each way on a push bike, train and tube. That sucked BIG style. Now drive to a differnt site every morning, so drive time is work time.

My commute is a minimum of 45 minutes each way (in school holidays) but is usually just over an hour each way, and has been as much as 2.5 hours at times (would you believe I only work 20 miles away?!)

It's a total pain to be honest, especially since I'm not a morning person! I'm usually gone by 7.15am. Thumbs Down

I commute in the Yaris. I never went on the NSR as there would not have been anywhere safe to leave it, although it would have saved a lot of waiting in traffic queues.

erm, about 30 minutes on foot... and about the same by car if I'm working during office hours.
About 10-15 minutes on the bike (but I often leave early and go the "Long Way Round", and make it last much longer) Thumbs Up

Guess which one I prefer??

About 20 minutes, 10 miles away. I have a choice of 3 routes, all about the same, though 1 is main road twisties, 1 is narrow back roads, and 1 is the A38. I'll see how fast I can get there on each one, whn I have the bike. Hello, forward-facing speed camera! Twisted Evil

My longest commute was just under 5 hours each way, including a ferry trip. I did that for a year, but I stayed over a lot only going home once or twice a week.

College is only about 5-10 minutes from where i am, (Less if ive stayed at the g/f's) but it involves quite a large amount of filtering, which is rather hard on the old noggen after only being up 20minutes Wink

I take the bike because its all i have, and if that fails im either at home fixing it, or on the pushbike Smile

Bike for me unless I decide the weather is too bad and get a lift. 10 miles each way on the direct route, some country B roads and some dual carriageway. Usually takes me between 15-20 mins depending on how much traffic and how many traffic lights I get caught in/at. If it's a summer commute it can be anything up to 60 miles on the way home. I work right on the edge on some nice countryside so go exploring whenever I get chance.

I was actually going to make last winter my last "have to" year of using the bike in all weathers. I bought a car last Feb but have only driven it twice, really must learn to drive at some point.

I commute by train from the south coast to london every day, I wake up at 6AM and leave at 6:45 getting to work about 8:45 so 2hrs each way.
Done it for 2yrs but won't for much longer.
I'm asleep for most of it and have managed to get in the right frame of mind to not get wound up by the odd delay, overall it is quite reliable.
I've considered doing it by bike in summer but that would be a days work in itself!
