My (works) Vaio laptop has malfunctioned.
On pressing the 'on' button you get the normal VAIO symbol on the screen, and it starts making all the right noises to boot up. Then it just blinks off and starts over, this happens for ever. Any ideas?

I've also bought a new Toshiba Satellite M100 with the new Centrino Duo processor. I picked it up in Singapore for just over 800 squid. Can't find it in the UK to compare price, Pissy World only have 3 laptops with this processeor, starting at a grand. Anyone know much about it?

First thing I'd do would be a restore using the disks that should be with it. If there aren't any disks then turn it on and watch the bottom of the screen, it should say "Press xx to restore" (xx being a key).

The restore should set everything back to how it was when you took it out of the packaging.

This will lose all your work and files but it's cheaper than getting someone else to have a look.

I'm no expert so not sure after that, doesn't sound like a major problem though.

I don't have a recovery disc, and it doesn't get far enough to prompt for any setup keys, I don't remember seeing anything like that in the past on it. Thinking
The problem started when I left the pooter in my car overnight when it was about -5deg. It started up in the morning a bit slowly but ran all day, then I shut it down and left for home. When I got back from work it was really hot and the battery was flat, from then on it hasn't worked.
I'll be back in the office next week, we might have a disc for it.

I like the Toshiba better anyway! It's spanky!

Which VAIO is it? and what OS is it running?

it may be powering off because it thinks it's overheating. Try disabling all power management features in the bios.

It may also have corrupted the HDD in some way, does it reboot at the same point every time?
