Is that what racer's refer to as target fixation? I.e. for the leading vehicle and not a stationary object?

Yeah, that and slamming the front brake on whilst banked over instead of just trying to lean more.

Something I still need to learn Embarassed

Nice riding, bit dodgy overtaking on corners. Did the bike (one that crashed) rear tyre keep stepping out on some corners?

Almost definate target fixation. No doubt at all, if whatever went off (maybe another bike) hadn't gone off he could have *easily* made it with room to spare.

Looked like quite a competent rider, obviouslly was riding very hard and got momentarily distracted by his mate rolling along the tarmac...

Only took a moments lapse in concentration and he was fucked, offline and going in the wrong direction... Best thing to do, slam on the brake and crash gracefully.

Sure, if he was concentrating on the road he could have leaned it in and corrected his line blah blah, the fact is he wasnt concentrating on the road, and so he didnt. Not like he was doing 25mph.

Erm, was I watching the same video? Confused

Looked to me they came round a corner quite fast on a decent surface, straight onto a gravelly/half made surface on which they lowsided as they were banked over.

It isn't unusual abroad (esp in France, which that looks like) for the road to be like that for miles when they're resurfacing.

Arrow You can see the warning sign just before the tyres let go.
Arrow Look at the amount of dust/gravel that's been thrown up by the first bike going down - that isn't normal for an asphalt crash.

Looking at it again, aiming for the escape road, whilst trying to slow it down a little wasn't a terrible idea in theory.

think your right about the first rider going down on gravel. but ithink the camera bike bins it before the surface change due to too much front brake.

Yeah but doesnt the bike in front of him make it round the bend? Look closely, I think he makes it round.

I'm pretty sure you can see that bike on the floor, with the rider next to it.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/rider.jpg

I saturated the area in photoshop to show him up more clearly.

I swear the back end went first... so how could of he pressed the front brake to hard?

Also that surface was FUCKED, and they where traveling at rather fast speeds so no wonder they lost it.

Shit himself mid corner as there was a new road layout, locked the back wheel, lost the front?

Awww bless BAB's on big bikes.

Neither of them were overly competent, they were riding in as close a fashion as they (thought they) could get away with and it caught them out.

That my friends, is why i dont go on group fast ride outs if i can help it. Quite like group bimbles, but lanes at speed trying to keep up with everyone is dodgy as hell.

Look at the lead overtake before a blind corner and the rest blindly follow both round the corner and often on the other side. Muppets.

As for the cams crash, looks like he shat himself, stamped on the back, steered out of the skid hence the mad fishtailing and then thought 'that was stupid' and let go while the rear was sideways.

Looks like the TL was playing 'catchup' and going faster than usual in order to catch up with the others, the cameraman is getting left behind so he also steps on it to stay with him.

TL goes round the bend, sees the crap road surface and goes wide/lowsides or something to that effect. It looks like his mates who were in front are waiting at the side of the road for them slightly further up. Waiting for the others after a bend isn't the best place, a long straight is best so people are aware that you have stopped and have time to adjust. Initial reaction when someone suddenly clocks someone when they're not expecting it is like 'stop/panic'.

Cameraman is going so quick that he clocks a problem as he rounds the bend and panics, uses the front brake perhaps (brake and release) but it's enough to throw the bike off balance and he runs wide like the TL....

Nice road though! Thumbs Up

its defo target fixation and on top if that a handful of front and rear brake. its easy for us to sit here and say "that was easy to avoid" but when your on the bike and its happening its quite a different story
