First off, sorry! I know this gets asked loads but...
I'll be going for my restricted license towards the end of the year and can't decide which bike to get.I want a bike with a fairing and i like the ZXR 400, and my dad seems to think it would be a good first 'big bike' to go for. But i also like the YZF thundercat. My dad told me that the 'cat is alot bigger and heavier, but i'm stronger than him and he's got a VFR800 Confused .
Now i know that ZXR's handle the 33bhp restriction quite well as it's a smallish engine and is cutting the bhp by around 50%, but how does the YZF take the restriction, as it cutting around 95bhp down to 33bhp? I've heard they loose all power at around 6,000rpm. Does that sound right?
Are there any other bikes i should look at? I've considered the other 400's but i think they will be a bit small and cramped as im about 6 ft 1. (am i right in saying that the ZXR is the largest 400?).
Thanks for any help/advise Very Happy Thumbs Up
Forgot to add; i will be using the bike in the week to get about on, but will also use it for weekend blasts and i would like to start doing some travelling on it, such as weekends away.

SRX400 is a 400cc single that is good looking and somewhat sporty (clip ons and riding position), is 33bhp naturally and is quite punchy for a 400.

restricted bikes always feel that way in my experience. A bike that is meant to make 33bhp is a better bet generally.

thud around on one till your restriction runs out and go buy the thundercat in full fat form.

If your a big and strong as you make out dont even think of a 400, you will get fed up pretty easy.
I know a few that have the zx6 restricted. My mate has one and she still has good fun on it.
The CBR restricted is still good too. The CBR is a very forgiving bike and a good 1st all rounder. Although maybe not the rr.

Im not a big fan of the Thundercat so cant say.

Other peeps I know have gone for SV600 but fully faired but that depends on your taste.

Single cylinder bikes survive restriction better than multis

My mates FX650 was restricted, we removed the restrictor kit and it was only really much faster in top!
