Generally i'm quite a cheapass about things... i currently own a lovely 2man tent, which is great, on your own, but its more a 1person+ stuff sort of affair..

I was thinking... would it be worth getting a really cheapo tent (because they are offensively cheap now) and have the doors faceing eachother, getting some colapseable tent rod stuff and connecting the two top parts and haveing a taupulin covering to make a sort of connection tunnel sort of thing (makeing a little portch)

Good idea? crap idea?

Depends what you want to use it for? As a porch on your house, I'd think that's a bad idea as someone could unpeg it at night and nick it. If you're planning a camping expedition and want an uber-tent, then that could be quite cool if it worked properly.

I'd value the protective qulaities and ease of use that a more expensive larger tent would offer than two cheapo one's bodged together personally.

It would work out cheaper to just buy an 'Uber-cheap' 3 or 4 man tent.

how about one of these for all the gear (boots/bags etc) so that you have all of the tent free of clutter:

It could certainly be done, but the 'porch' bit would be very un-waterproof. Unless you managed to gaffa tape it to the tents perfectly. Razz

Beware of these offensively cheap tents though; you get what you pay for. For Glastonbury (now you know this'll be good Rolling Eyes Wink ) my mate bought a £16.99 2 man tent to sleep in. Thursday morning, he found it worked better as a sieve than as a tent. Laughing Luckily there was room to go around.

Ahh nifty, i'd forgot about gaffa tape Razz

Well thewaterproofing of the other tent wont be a big problem, it would really only be for storeing..
Tankbag
Sideboxes
Backpack..
anything like money/phones i'd keep with us in the other tent..

this would be for rallys btw, not festivals (thats are dodgey as) only rallys we go to wont be dodgey as leeds/readding/glastonbury e.t.c.

I could get a big tent but they are pricey for decent ones Sad

Yeah, it would work as long as it's not too windy.

But if you want to be a real cheapskate don't get a tent for your storage, pick yourself up a beach or fishing shelter (preferably one where the front closes up).

And gaffa tape binbags across between the 2, they're nice and waterproof and they don't weigh much or take up much space on your bike! Thumbs Up

Seems a bit daft when you can get a 3-4 man tent from Tescos for about £20 at the moment though.

I've been scouring t'internet since the back of last year looking for a decent 3 man tent (for two+gear in reality), with pack size probably the main factor.

The best I've managed to come up with for a combo of all round pack size and internal space are:

Coleman Epsilon 3 (38x20cm pack size)
Coleman Graphite 3 (43x21cm pack size)

Not cheap though!

There are tons of tents with plenty of room inside, but most just have too long a pack size with those F1-19 wings hanging out of the back end of your bike.

Get up to 90 with a wide load and you'll be requesting the tower for a fly-by... Maverick

You have a 2 man tent, use 1 mans worth of space for your self and the other mans worth for your stuff! That should work ok unless you are a fatty.

If you plan on doing this again, and bearing in mind you have to carry the tents to where you are going I think you should get a 3/4 man tent really. Just make sure it has a fly net!
