just passed my car test and my cbt is running out in couple months. just wondering if i can ride a 125 on a full car licence some people say u can not sure though.

No, you need to have a valid CBT certificate to 'validate' the provisional bike licence you already have (and which is also on your car licence).

You need a valid CBT to ride a 125cc bike on the road. Even with a CBT you're restricted to 14.5bhp as well, which generally isn't a problem with four stroke bikes, but two strokes often have to be restricted to stay below this limit.

You definitely cannot (legally) ride a bike of any description on just a car license (even a 50cc ped needs a CBT). See the DVLA page for the exact details.

(Edit: Unless you got your license before 1.Feb.2001, in which case you can ride a 50cc ped without a CBT... thanks to dmahon for pointing that out)

As he's just passed, he can't, but for everyone else it depends on when they got it. If you got your full car licence before 1 February 2001, you can ride a 50cc ped without a CBT - see DSA website.

Edit: For those who pass a car test after 1 February 2001, they need to have done a CBT to validate their 50cc moped entitlement (code 122 is printed on the licence). Said CBT does not have to be renewed every 2 years - unless they also want to ride a 125cc motorbike on L plate, in which case the normal rules apply.

As the poster has previosuly done CBT, he can send the CBT certificate away with his licence and get the full "P" category added, without the code 122.

Usually to renew your CBT they do a refresher which is only half a day and cheaper too. Depends on your bike school though. We do

Since he passed while he was holding a valid cbt cant he still ride a 50cc ped i am sure it said it on the back of my cbt form.

In pre CBT days (when you had 2 years on a bike provisional to pass your test, otherwise you got a 1 year ban) this used to be the case which is probably what is confusing people. Now you need the CBT as mentioned above.
