 |
|
I am 16 years old, will be 17 in august, and i am looking for a decent bike i can have then. I plan on taking my full motorbike test, so what size bike would that be? I have been looking and i think its a 125cc..So if that is the biggest i plan on getting an nsr 125.
So the few questions about the NSR..What's the top speed? And what is an RS125's top speed? (Need to know if i can outdrag my mates )
Well as im 17 i will have it for 4 years right? Untill im 21 and can get a bigger bike , So need a good bike.
So basically is it a good reliable bike? How fast will it go? And is this the biggest i can get untill im 21?
Thanks |

Hi,
Nothing stopping you from doing your CBT NOW and getting it out of the way.
Until you are 17, you can only ride a 50cc moped restricted to 30mph MAX SPEED.
When you are 17, you can ride a 125cc motorcycle producing up to 14.6 BHP.
The CBT lasts for two years, when it runs out, you will have to retake it.
There is no way to ride a bigger machine than 125cc on a CBT.
You will need to do your full A2 motorcycle test which will restrict you to riding a bike with no more than 33BHP for the first two years, but no limit on engine size.
Large engined bikes are restricted to 33BHP via restrictor kits, which cost about £200 fitted.
When you are 17, you can do a 3/4/5 day training course which will see you through your CBT, Theory (I think) and your full practical A2 examination, this will cost about £600 max.
After that, you can ride any bike at 17, providing it is restricted to 33BHP.
You will be able to remove the restrictors when you are 19 years old, on the 2 year anniversary of your test pass.
Any more questions please don't hesitate to asks! *goes and bathes wrists in ice*
3 examples paths you can take.
1: Do CBT now, get a 50cc moped, upgrade to 125 on your 17th birthday
2: Do CBT now, Pass Theory Test, Do practical training course on 17th birthday, Pass A2 test, buy a 400/500/600cc motorcycle and fit a 33BHP restrictor kit onto it
3: Do CBT now, wait until 17 and then buy a 125cc motorcycle.
Personal preference, but I would take route 2. I'm not sure if you can take and pass your theory at 16, but take that as soon as possible as it's a piece of piss and you might have problems booking a course without a theory pass (I was told to pass my theory test before going for a course, your mileage may vary depending on company). |

I have a CBT At the moment i have a MBK X-Power (Tzr-50), I'm just looking about what to do when im 17 I read license and all that off BSM's website..So after 2 years of riding a 33bhp bike i can ride bigger? I got the idea you had to be 21+ to ride bigger than a 33bhp
But yea, im used to doing over 30mph, my MBK will do 55mph
So a full Catagory A lisence will cost about £600? Shit
Thanks |

Insurance is the same if its restricted or not. Theve never mentioned restricters with me (17 with full power CBR 600 ) Best to get it restricted though probably, at least for the ceritficate.
Insurance will be £850+ for 600cc sports at 17, depending on personal infomation such as address etc etc.
A very popular option is a 400cc sports bike, these are getting rarer and rarer and prices are going/have going over the top in my opinion for a 14+ year old shagged bike.
sensible options include 500 naked bikes, SV650 and such like.
The route i took was waited till 17, took theroy, did 4 days course (including CBT) over 2 weeks, and test was on a different day. Passed first time with 3 minors.
One other point is that i didnt just jump straigt on to a 600cc full power sports bike I had a 250cc full power sports bike first that blew up (and then i highsided it ) ____________________ || Past: 1991 Kawasaki ZXR 250 ~ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1999 Yamaha R1 ~ 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R J ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1998 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm ~ K1 GSXR 600 Track bike ~ K6 GSXR 1000 ~ 2006 Speed Triple 1050 || Current: 2005 R1 https://www.adrucore.co.uk |
