If you wheelie with the rear tyre on the wrong way round- would it greatly affect your wheelies?
I just realised that it does on my bicycle-and was wondering if riding a proper bike with incorrectly fitted tyres significantly affected handling...
any ideas people?anyone had tyres on the wrong way round before.... Laughing

Put it on backwards and it will be like riding with a slick.

All the channels will be going backwards so they will be no use at all, in the wet, and keep the water under the tyre.

Look at your tyre and you should see an arrow on it somewhere.

cos the tyres designed to rotate in one direction at high speed. cant be good to go against that.

just my 2p worth and may not have any scientific bearing in reality.

I would have imagined it was just to do with the tread being the right way round. Don't know how they could make a rubber that was affected by which way it is turning.

I have raced with tyres on the wrong way around.

The reason to do it is usually because the right hand side is more worn than the left.

It shouldn't effect wheelies.

It will not be like running a slick. There are a lot of different factors as well as tread pattern that effects the way a tyre works.

The problem that can happen is the tyre delaminating. This is not a good thing.
This can happen due to the way the tread is joined. Normally it would be pushing the join together, however the other way around it can kinda pick up the leading edge.
See my paint skills below for an example.

Shouldn't be a problem 99.9% of the time. Check to see if there's an obvious join line with a lip. If there is, don't use the tyre the wrong way around (I'd be tempted not to use it anyway, though, to be honest.)

lovin the pic Smile

makes sense that if you think about it, all tyres must start life as a flat piece of rubber.

Thought they were moulded so why would they have that slice in them?

They are moulded in one long strip which is then cut and glued onto the carcass.

Think you've got it the wrong way round mate. The tread is injection mould on some and hot pressed on others. Depends on the manufacturer. the join is normally on the carcass, have a look inside your tyre and you can see it.

No matter what if you crash with a tyre on the wrong way round it will more than likely invalidate your insurance.
