i did a pgce for teaching secondary school maths.

if you have a degree, you do a pgce which takes a year at uni with placements in schools

a lot will depend on the schools you do your placements in. some give you great support, others dont

you can also do gtp which is if you have a degree and want to go straight into on the job training, with a few occasional days at uni.

if you are doing gtp, your lesson planning doesnt have to be as thorough but you will do a lot more teaching.

this way you get paid and its probably a lot more work but the school has more reason to help you as they are employing you

there may be ways of getting into teaching without doing a degree but i dont know about them

the thing that bugged me is that you are expected to reach a standard far higher than the teachers will be doing in their lessons. A lot of teachers dont challenge the kids and just keep them under control, but you are expected to challenge the kids and keep them under control.

If you are naturally bossy and organised, this will help.

I was based at wolverhampton uni on the walsall campus.

They suggest you get some time in a school before you decide whether or not to do a course.
