Hi

I have just purchased a Suzuki gsf600s, It hasn't been used for about 4 months.
I just wandered what everyone would recommend getting done to it?
I reckon I need to do the follwoing:
New spark plugs
Oil
Oil filter
Air filter

Do you think I should get the carbs cleaned out?
maybe charge the battery??

Also what costs do garages charge for this type of service?

Thanks

Most people should be able to do all that except for maybe the carb clean. Hows it running? 4 months isn't a long time so it might not need anything other than the petrol. If you want to change bits then you should do the basic stuff yourself. A workshop will charge a fortune for labour and it really is pretty simple.

Once its running it seems fine. It takes a few goes to start though, I think its the battery though because the lights seem to get dim.
Unless i'm doing something wrong, on a cold morning should I have full choke or half?
I tried half but I think I should of used full. Also do I need to use any throttle?

Choke position can be different between bikes. On my bikes I always start with full choke , no throttle and that seems to work 100%. Once its started I drop the choke a bit until its warmed up.

Have you ridden the bike any real distance yet, without lights on? This should help the battery charge up.

Find yourself a manual and go through all the basic checks, Its something you should do regularly so you need to be able to do it yourself.

Theres plenty of petrol additives you can buy that will clean the carb over time, stuff like redex, don't know what other people might recommend, give that a try first.

Its all part of the ownership mate, get to know your bike, it makes you more confident in the thing and can save your money for the major jobs or parts.

cheers marki
I think I need to start on full choke as well, I will try later.
tbh mate I have only ridden the bike down the road becuase I haven't got tax yet because my insurance doc's aren't here yet so i'm holding myself back from riding it (which is hard)
I was thinking about petrol additives, I wasn't sure whether I could use redex on the bike.
Ive only had the bike a day so don't really know much about the bike yet but i'm sure I will very soon.

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Check tyre pressure and chain tension before you ride.
Lub the chain too. Cool
