Can't really say much about the xtc as I've never been on one. Looks good though.

I've got an RS which on the whole is pretty good. On the plus sides handling I've found is pretty amazing and I'd even go as far to say that it handles better than me 600. Once de-restricted their 100 times better on acceleration.
Some people have issues with the engine f*cking up on them but so far mine with some good shit 2-stroke oil in it and general wee bits of maintenance on it seems fine.

One the negative sides mine seems to have problems starting (pos. only a problem as it was an import) and if you're buying second hand they can be trouble as chavs have owned them and not looked after them. Also a favourite with people getting a first bike so may be accident damage. Also replacement fairings cost an extortionate amount of money.

Can't really say I've any regrets on buying it though.

The newer XTCs are 4 stroke, so if you want power stay well away. Not sure when they made the switch though.

Parts for Sachs will most likely be a bastid aswell; chances are you'll have to import them.

I'd say the RS is the better choice. Of course, it's about as reliable as British weather, but when it does break down you've got parts galore.

I think they made the switch in 2000, so you can still get a relatively decent example of the 2 stroke model.

I wouldn't be so assuming on the parts though, a couple of people on this board with aprilias have found the parts easy enough, but then end up waiting 3 weeks for them to get to the garage from Aprilia, then have to put up with extortionate labour, crap service and quite possibly a bodged job Smile

neither. get the nsr (more reliable) or the mito (quicker but more expensive).. I heard many stories about aprilla parts and service so I personally wouldnt own one and sachs well I wouldnt have even considered Razz

How old are you? I was gonna go down the quick 125 route but for the price of em you can buy a much quicker bike that will last Wink

tar for the replies i rode the rs last week and found it great fun but abit to small as im over 6 foot the pegs are abit uncomfy. the mito as some 1 suggested is an amazin lookin bike and stupidly quick but there very steap price wise and parts are like rocking horse sh@t Thumbs Up. whats the nsr like with reliability or the cbr but even they look smaller vthan the rs. roll on summer hey Razz

The CBR is much smaller than the RS and a bit smaller than the NSR, But it is 4 stroke, it may be slower than the others mine reaches 75MPH at a push, if you want reasonably trouble free motoring go for a 4 stroke, if you want balls out accelaration and not worry about the engine rebuild costs go 2 stroke. Pity Honda didnt put the 4 stroke engine into the NSR as I think it looks better than my CBR.

Which is bad because there will be no parts around and nobody to ask when it goes wrong...

The 2t XTC uses a refined TZR engine, so it cant be that fast.

Aprilia will go faster, but the sachs looks better, and you will be almost original in your area...

RS125 for power, XTC 125 for reliability.

NSR125 for a mix of both, but not at either extreme Laughing

The world and his dog seem to have RS's these days though, the XTC would be a little different... not following the crowd.

As Palmer said, if I chose my 125 again, I think I'd have a DT... better bike to learn on (less plastics to break and easier to get to fiddly engine bits when something goes wrong). Offroading is fun, too.
