Hi Everyone
I passed my full bike licence on 19/06/1996. unfortunatley I never rode a bike after that. Now I want to own a 600cc. Can I go ahead and get one or am I restricted in any way. I think the laws changed after my pass date. Does this affect me?????

Shouldnt be.

If you took a restricted test back then, your 2 years would be up (if it was the same way abck then, probably not and im talking shit Smile )

But i dont see how you would be restricted unless you took the license only allowing you to ride a motorbike upto 125cc

depends on the test you took I suppose , but then not riding for 10 years I'd personally recommend you have a practice for a few hours maybe just a mate or even a school.

Definately take a refresher course... 600cc bikes are rather different to what they were in 1996...

I did a similar thing - passed my test at the end of 1996 just before the new restrictions came in early 1997.
I think that there was only 1 catagory of test and if you passed it then you could ride anything!

Until a month ago I hadn't done much riding since my test so I booked a couple of hours at a training school did some refresher stuff in the yard for 30 mins then the instructor followed me round as we went through a town centre, through some housing estates, round some country type roads and then back to the centre up a motorway. He seemed to think I was safe. I told him I wanted a 600CC sports bike and he didn't see a problem as long as I took the time to get use to riding it before I rode too hard.

So I've got a GSXR600 now and have been taking it fairly easy for the last month (especially considering the weather) just enjoying it more and more as I get used to the bike!
