I posted a while back about a problem I was having with my Honda CB450. The original problem was that it was taking an age to warm up, or so I thought. In reality the choke just needed getting used to. Now though I have a real problem. I can be happily going along the motorway at about 70 when after about 5 minutes of riding the bike feels like I've put the handbrake on or something. The power drops off and I'm doing about 50 in seconds. To accompany this the exhaust starts to sound like it's got a huge hole in it. Then after a few minutes the power returns, which has nearly caught me out a couple of times. If I wasn't holding on as tight.....Anyway, the power doesn't always come back but even when it does the exhaust note remains rough. This always happens in the first ten minutes or so after the bike has been standing all day or night. I never use it during the day, normally, so don't know what it would be like then. Also as I only use it for a twenty minute journey, each way, I don't know if the problem would arise later on in a journey. I've got some time off soon so I'll test that out at least, but I'd appreciate any advice offered.

my bike had a power problem the other day(well it always has its a 50)

going along into town, round about ahead slowed down cogged down then all of a sudden went to give a little throttle bike just died out more throttle i gave and the faster the bike died down!

i ended up on the inside of the round about trying to start the bike Embarassed Embarassed

ended up pushing across the road and for 30minutes swearing and giving the bike grief lol!!

tried everything, checked oil, petrol, gearbox oil, and loads of other things, went to push the starter again for some reason i do not know as i knew it didnt do nothin (by this time i had all ready given up) and what do you know the bike started, gave the bike throttle while putting helmet on and away i went! bike fine for about 15miles then done it again but started up straight away havnt been on the bike since!!

i think the cause of this was in the cover of the spark plug, the spring that covers the spark plug it self..maybe it was loose?? i dont know!

next dry day il take the farings off the bike and have a look!!

cheers Thumbs Up Cool Razz

Sounds like you might be losing power on a cylinder, I'd check plugs & caps first.

Hiya all, new to bike owning, although have been riding for ages ... all this self-maintenance is going to be fun! I'm having the same problem on me CBX. I can notch it up to about 60 - 65 , and then all of a sudden, its like having air-brakes. Even had to check to see if me foot wasnt on the rear brake!!! Checked the plugs and the caps, (There are 4 yeah?!), and nothing out of the ordinary there. All seemed to be in place. Hope you can help guys!? Cheers, Gareth

Cheers for the welcome. Shes a CBX550. Still havent managed to sort anything out. Have checke the caps on the plugs, checked the air filter, and have put a drop of Redex into the petrol. Sure its gotta be something simple. Crying or Very sad
