I got my 03 NSR125 started after 3 months standing, changed fuel and spark plug. But i know have a bigger problem, with the spark plug out and my finger over the hole i can almost keep my finger on it when starting it up. Also when i just fire it up and leave the choke fully out it idles at about 1200rpm and a lot of the time just dies. I have to rev it to keep the engine ticking over. Is it time for a new piston? Thanks for the help

Yes, and rings and cylinder gasket by the sound of it.

Have you trickle charged the battery???

Choke cables stuck by the sounds of it also.

Baz. Thumbs Up

Was it sat outside, sounds like your piston rings may have corroded and seized in their grooves. Also treat it to some fresh petrol.

ye the battery is fully charged ,i was also driving it for a couple of days with fresh fuel

Is there anyway of keepin it tickin over its only done 9000m (change the idle revs) as im tryin to sell it .Im absolutely broke(student).

How difficult is a top end rebuild i noticed swampy was talkin about puttin up a guide, cant find it though. How much would the parts mentioned by puremagic cost?

One last Q my honda dealer in a rush gave me a BR8ecs plug instead of a BR9ecs does this matter?

Thanks for all the help

You may be able to get it to tick over, but unless the person buying it is a complete idiot surely they'll want to take it for a test ride?

Have you given it a good thrashing (I can not be held responsible for any damage caused whilst performing this procedure. Wink )

Change your plug to a BR9EIX.

These are the best, i have a feeling this will make it better.

Standard piston kit(if i'm not mistaken) is no more than £35.

But you will have to check what size piston you have already.

But change your plug 1st, its expensive but lasts around 6000 miles. About £8 Each.

Then give it a good thrashing(Warm engine up first for 2 miles)

The idling maybe just the idle screw needs adjusting, Warm the engine up then adjust the screw(not sure if its the left/right screw on the carb?) Should be 1500rpm
