Many people say wash your bike regularly with soap and water. Can someone help me with more details please.
1. Which soaps (hand wahsing, dish washer, or clothes washing soap etc.) plus which to avoid?
2. Which are the most important parts to wash regularly if you dont have time for thorough washes (especially hard to get part - IF ANY!)
I can't really dismantle my bike to give it a thorough wash (lack of both expertise and time) so not sure how much I will cause it to deteriorate.
Please help with advice and guidance.
Sad
Many thanks Thumbs Up

Don't use fairy liquid on your bike, the enzymes in it will ruin your finish on your bike by digestine the cellulose in the paint. Giving a dull matt finish

white spirit on a rag for removing bits of gunk from cellotape etc

Pledge for polishing body work,

WD40 over metal bits

Most important bits are the fork stantions, keep them salt free you don't want them getting pitted, can be pricey.

Exhaust down pipes,

Clean your brake discs up as crap that gathers can get jammed in the calliper and cause havoc in there.

metal bits in general salt an get into and start to eat it's way under a finish and into the metal.

keep bits that should be, lubed.

Probably will take a while to have any effect, but it is nasty stuff for paint.

Leave some on yer window ledge and watch it bubble!

It removes wax from the paintwork, the proper stuff doesn't.

1. Any good car wash would do for a basic clean. Stuff with turtlewax or similar even better.

2. Pretty much everything. Bare metal parts especially, remember to adjust lube cables/chains/etc if necessary.

Muc-off works well for me; gets all the dirt, oil etc off easy.

Spray it on, agitate all the grimy areas with a brush or sponge as appropriate and make sure you rinse it off before it dries.

what would people recommend cleaning the wheels on a GSXR. the white wheels are a pain the arse to clean, and the grime just does not come off at all.. What does every one else do? is muc off actually effective, or is it just the same as fair liquid with a good hard scrub?

Once brake dust has set into wheels, it's very hard to shift. I used to think that soiled white wheeled GSXRs were down to a lack of clenliness, but I once heard that brake dust can actually eat into a surface if left long enough? Not sure of how much of that's true.

Tried aerosol brake cleaner? General degreaser? Maybe paraffin?

Try cif or wd40 for the white wheels. Cif is rumoured to work wonders lol. If it's powdercoated, then you should be able to throw pretty much anything at them.

Dont wash the inside of your exhaust with petrol, unless your out side and have your worst enemy standing behind the bike.
