Went to the garage last night to grab a box of dog food to feed my dog this morning. I got there and they had nothing but tinned dog food and dry cat food.
my dog wont eat tinned dog food, makes her ill etc. So I grabbed the dried cat food instead.

me dog Loved it. And well, I was just wondering if it is safe to feed my dog on dried cat food as its cheaper, And she likes it more than dog food! Laughing

Think you'll find dogs will eat pretty much anything. Both dried cat food and dog food are about 70% ash so for an even cheaper option, cook a barby then give your dog the coals (after they've cooled) with a bit of meat chucked on top. J/K.

We used to give our cats dog food which they preferred. Never did them any harm - till they found an insistence to chase cars. You never know, your dog may learn to climb trees.

Much higher calorie density in cat food. Your dog will get fat and it will do really stinking farts.

There is a much higher protien content and lower carbohydrate content in cat food. It isn't ideally nutritionally balanced for a dog but shouldn't do any harm.

If the cat food is cheaper than the dog food, you are buying the wrong dog food!

It is a bad idea to feed a cat dog food. Cats are obligate carnivores and use protien for their energy source. Cat food also has taurine added to it. A deficiency of taurine in cats can cause heart disease.

We feed our dog cat food too, have done for 5 years. She won't have anything else, any it doesn't seem to do her any harm. No stinking farts, but the taurine would explain the hyperactivity. Thinking Wink

Mantzy I used to think it was actually ash as well - Stinkwheel corrected me on that too. And it's only 2 or 3% anyway. Razz
