Hi

I have just stripped my carbs down and soaked them to clean. put them back together and fitted.

First thing that happenned when i switched on the fuel was shit loads of fuel pilling out of carb no 3.

pulled of carbs checked float no problems. Put back together checked again this time seems ok.

Mopped up all fuel from airbox etc. Left for an hour and tried starting from bump start as battery dead.

ran like a bag of shite. would not rev at all nd only firing on two of four.

Tried again this time it tried to start but no luck. All I got was smoke from the airbox and on closer inspection a slightly burnt air filter.

Bollox

I'm guessing that I didn't leave it long enough. Also is it usually difficult to get firing after carbs have been completely drained, cleaned and blown through with an airline.

Any suggestions before I have a go tommorrow.

Thanks Stu

Yep. If you're sure that the floats are ok then it sounds like you've connected a breather or overflow pipe onto the petrol tap

Was number three one of the cylinders that wouldn't fire? You know that fuel should be coming from that carb because it was pissing out everywhere (probably due to dirt stopping the float valve from closing). If three was firing, then the two that wouldn't fire could be not getting any petrol.

If you can easily take the floatbowls off with the carbs in situ, check that they are all full of petrol, and that the floats let in more petrol when you let them drop. Obviously the cylinders that weren't firing are what should concern you (because running rough and not wanting to start is hardly surprising if there's only two good'uns).

Right an update.

Thanks nath for your sensible comments.

Turns out that t battery was so fooked it was not producing enough spark. Hooked up to the car today and she fired straight away but only on 3. no2 spark plug was also shot so replaced and now is running sweet as a nut.

The bike is a project that I bought for 200quid(gpz750a1) hadn't been properly run for a couple of years I believe! will get some pics up at a later date.
