Make sure that whoever speaks to his mum/dad will get them to phone up immediately and cancel insurance. Because if he does they will give him a refund.

Of course as the lady in the 206 wants to get some compensation it might not be doable. However if the 206 can be fixed by the money refunded due to him cancelling insurance then it will save him paying for the cars damage through the next few years in insurance!

Unless he's paying a ridiculous amount, probably not worth it, I'd have thought.

Cacenling the insurance would not stop it being liable for paying out as it is cancelled after - if it did, then it would be illegal.

Most policies contain a clause whereby the agreement is cancelled in the event of a total loss anyway.
