From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

No, its for protection of the occupants, (as well as rigidity) same as any other rollcage.
They only travel on a couple of feet of water, if that in some races. So, if they do go over, you need something to at least try to stop your head getting ripped off. Also, as you can see, the bank it right next to the water, the rollcage stops your head getting squashed when they go over into the dry land part. And they go over quite often, with spectacular results. I'll try and find some more footage of them, you can see why they need the cage then!
And waters a funny thing, if you hit it over a certain speed, it's just like hitting concrete, apparantly. ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP
