when i travel to my girlfriends, i go from norwich to fakenham, this is quite a quick road and a good 'motorbike road' with plenty of safe places to over take.

I have got a zxr400 but it is restricted, this bike is plenty quick enough for everyday use.

i have found when overtaking from about 50-60 the bike is fine, however from 60 upwards the acceleration is a bit lacking, is this because of the restriction or is this just the way these bikes are, the bike has a top speed in 6th of about 80mph but if i change down to 4th it goes about 90mph, 95 with a good wind behind me lol.

Being a strapping rugby player and weighing in a 15 stone, would i find removing the restrictors not making much difference to the accerlation from middle to top speed.

And finally how hard are the restrictors to remove, and would it make any difference if i got a bigger bike but still kept it restricted

Thanks

Lusty

The ZXR400 will do about 130mph without restrictors in it and will have better acceleration as well. To remove them, take your tank and airbox off and the restrictors are there in the cabrs looking at you, take all four of them out and then put the rest of the bike back together.

Getting a bigger bike and keeping it restricted won't be any better, chances are the bigger bike wouldn't take the restriction as well as a 400 does and so it'd actually be worse.

This may sound quite thick, but i'm not really Q'ed up on the mechanics of a bike when taking off the take, what happens to the petrol, do i have to leave it connected?

i asked the same question a few weeks ago.

use the search option, someone gave me a step by step guide of what to do.

fuel stays in the tank when u dissconect it, then you take the airbox off and then carbs where u can take the metal restrictors out.

the difference is mental, basicly it doubles the power.

My first bike was a ZXR400, and it was restricted to 33bhp when I bought it.

I de-restricted it after a couple of months because quite frankly it lacked testicles!

As has already been said, it's really easy to do, even without any mechanical abilities. Just remember which bolts go where.

The difference is amazing. 3rd gear will take you to top speed of about 130mph.

You'll find that the bike is electonically limited to that top speed, so 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th will all top out at the same speed with the power cutting when you hit it. Same sort of experience as hitting the rev limiter.
However - you can get a little chip to bypass that limiter too... Smile

An excellent bike to start with. Loved it to bits. Literally Sad

130 in 3rd. Rolling Eyes

I did a test last week and this is what I got:

1st - 50mph
2nd - 80mph
3rd - 100mph
4th - 115mph (don't think it got to limiter, theres not much power left above 14k)
5th - TBE
6th - TBE

Mine only downgeared a little so it's not that much different.

Nope, not 100% Confused

Has been a few years since I had my ZXR, and just going from memory. Fairly sure I was hitting top speed in 3rd though.

Mine was a grey import, so that would be why i had the limiter problem.

I've probably confused all the speeds it did in my head over the years.

You're looking for what looks like a large washer that sits in each of your cylinders under the carbs.

Looking for an example photo to send you...

Not the same bike but you get the idea! Those are the culprits. The silver disc with the hole in it.

Don't take the carbs apart. Confused There will be some screws with inlet rubbers that hold the carbs on. Just undo the screws and pulls the carbs.

Power difference is ace, first time i have experienced proper lift on the bike!! loved it, got home smiling, wasnt going to tell the parents, but couldnt stop smiling and gave myself away.

They smell well nice, taking mine abroad with me when i will be parted from my bike for 4 months as a reminder!!

Go for it, your nearly there!! Thumbs Up

You need to do your full category A licence. Not the A2.

This will restrict you to 33bhp for 2 years. OR, you could do another test after January, and get your unrestricted licence then.

You will find that whilst restricted, after about 60mph you will lack accelleration. Will still sound lovely though.

Of course... you should NEVER deristrict your bike before you're legally licenced to ride an unrestricted bike! Wink

do you reckon i will get a ton out of the zxr tho? cos my mate has one of those shitty cbr125`s and my motocross bike canes that lol.
i got a suzuki RM125. So im already used to geared bikes. My RM puts out more than 33 but its geared for low end.
what if i put a diff can on and it increases the power, can i still get in trouble for this even if i have it restricted? Laughing

Yes

You'll get 130 out of it unrestricted.
