Ok following a discussion with a mate earlier today, a thought i had a little while ago has been re-inserted into my brain.

Basically i always enjoyed my moto-x days and feel a bit disheartened that i might not get to do it again. Its too much hassle as i cannot drive.

So my thought was to create a green laner... legal for the road so i can get to lanes, and good enough to have a blast around some nice lanes.

As i border the fens, im sure there are lanes a plenty around that i can legally go around. Im not into illegal laning, cant be bothered with it, would just love to roll out the bike one morning and go for a completely different type of ride.

So my question is that if i was to build up a project bike from scratch, from different parts from different motorcycles, do i simply need an MOT, or do i need an Engineers report or what ever the term for it is?

I believe you need an SVA test. If you are basing it on a registered frame, you can probably blag it though.

If the original frame and engine are correct, you will get away without an SVA test. By this I mean the frame and engine should come off the same model of bike, they don't have to be the ones that came out of the factory bolted together.

If you chop the frame about you are supposed to get an SVA test. Question is, if you just carry-on as if it was totally standard, whos job is it to pick you up on this? Most MOT testers couldn't give a shit as long as it works and has a frame and engine number on it.

Technically, if I change one more thing on my KLE it will trigger an SVA test because I have changed both wheels. In the real world, who is going to both be looking that closely at it and have the authority to do anything about it?
