Ok can u restrict any bike? the reason i ask is because there was a discussion on 125ccsportsbikes.com and everyons is saying every bike can be restricted to 33bhp

i said wouldnt people be "restricting" r1's etc

they were all like yeah loads of people do that

this sounds like utter shit

Yeah you can restrict anything, except a 2 stroke 250, they don't take to it very well at all and it's probably best not bothering.

The insurance for an R1 is going to be stupid if you only have a restricted license.

Restricting it doesnt make it any cheaper.

The other thing to remember if you are on a restricted licence is that, if I remember correctly, you are not just restricted to 33bhp.

I seem to recall being told that there is also a ptw ratio limit too, although I have no idea what it is. Embarassed

Yes and this makes the aprillia RS125 illegal even on a 33hp licence. Shocked

But if you restrict it you are losing all the power so that would change the ptw ratio.

When you derestrict the RS125, you wont be past the 33hp limit but it has a high enough ptw ratio to make it illegal on a restricted license.

0.16kW/kg

So you can't ride a 33BHP bike that's under 150kg?

i reckon an r1 wd be quite good restricted, as you wd still have all that low rev torque but without the potentially dangerous uber-torque at high revs

however insurance costs wd mean anyone needing restrictions wd pay out a fortune on insurance.

it might be a good idea for someone new to bikes but old enough to have low insurance

dunno about all r1's, but the 98 r1 is really easy to ride, much easier than the r6 and if it were restricted you wdnt be temtped to try and thrash it

to be honest i cant even imagine thrashing an r1 as its so responsive with the slightest twist of throttle

if i had a restricted license, i would have got a bike with torque at low revs so you dont miss out so much

they arent that heavy, and it wd still have the low rev torque, just wdnt have the top end

its bikes with no low rev torque that arent so good restricted as the whole point of them is the peaky top end and you just dont get it

A guy on here had a restricted R1. He parked it into the back of a car pretty swiftly though.

It does happen, and can happen, but it's stupid.
