I am currently deciding which to proceed to when I get paid. A car, a 125.
Is buying EITHER on finance a good or stupid idea. (I can afford to buy either outright now I have a job under my belt) But means I will drain all my money, paying on finance would allow me to have some to myself for weekends ect. Outright would mean being skint for 2 months, personally I would rather pay the APR than be broke for that long, kind of like a privelage for the working class, but at a price we can all afford, still a cunt though, the feeling of getting bored of something you are still paying for.

Advice People, also if you would, suggest some bikes/cars in the swing of your opinion.

Cheers,

Soul, Thumbs Up

Avoid finance.

In your position I'd buy it outright, and just hit the overdraft for the next couple of months. Don't know about your banking set up, but for me the overdraft is still cheap money. Much cheaper than finance.

If you don't have an overdraft, or if it isn't big enough, getting a loan of some of the cash over 2 or 3 months would be an alternative.

I am 17, I live in Ash (insurance is a joke).
Taste in bikes at my age range, would be either an RS125 (I'm willing to maintain it) Or a new skool DT125 2 stroke. Perhaps a KTM, I like crossers.
Cars, Golf/1.6 Astra (the older ones)/Vectra (gorgeous but insurance will tear me apart)

@17 your going to get fecked for insureance on a car (even a total shed)..

Finance is never a good idea ever... unless its 0% and you have the money in your bank collecting interest.
Otherwise by the time you have payed it off you'll have probably allready got rid of your bike..

imo, buy a cheap bike (even an nsr125,mz,cg,sub£700) you fist bike will almost certainly get dropped and depreciate like a mad thing..

You asking weather to get a car or bike on a bike forum? you must want to be told bike Wink

getting a k6 gixer600 sometime next month on finance, only doing it because i have the money sitting in a nice high interest account :p Wouldn't really recommend HP though, as previously stated; its a bummer Smile

And technically on "Hired Purchase" you don't technically "own" the bike until you have payed in full, whereas a loan, you do.

Stay away from finance as it makes selling the bike a helluva lot difficult. I had to ring up the finance company for proof that my bike's remaining finance was paid off as the buyer was very insistent.

I also don't think that at 17, you're legally allowed to get finance unless you parents do it on your behalf, and they're often not too keen if its for biking.

Also, for your information, KTM only have competition 125's. Their crossers are all above the 14.6bhp limit and they are mad expensive to buy. How about a rebuild every 100-300 miles?

Budget about 1400 for a first bike and i wouldn't recommend spending more. I regretted buying an XR125 brand new as i knew i weren't going to keep it for that long, but my dad was optimistic that it was going to be my ONLY bike for the time being. Oh how wrong he was.

I would personally rather have a bike, and parents have offered to let me finance it out of their account, Maybe an RS125, I can't deny it, I LOVE 2 stroke. OR I could hoard the money, and buy me a field bike, I've always had a passion for dirt riding, ALWAYS, since i was big enough to ride a kiddie 50. I used to have a ghetto skool 50cc unbranded home made bike frame 50 with off road push bike wheels, so much fun.

At 17 you can't get finance in your own name anyway. So I presume you will have a guarantor.
