I was up North on the bike this weekend. The police were out in force on Sunday all round the area surrounding Glencoe.

There were six coppers, five vehicles and a mobile police station set up in a laybye at the North end of Ballachullish bridge. They were pulling in pretty much every bike that went past and measuring their numberplates, I sat and watched them doing it.

Now as it happened, we turned off up a sideroad just before this impromptu 'checkpoint' and were sat waiting for a mate to catch up. Not in any attempt to avoid the coppers but because we were going to have a look in past Kinlochleven.

Now the bit I found funny. We were going to Kinlochleven (about 10 miles away from the police) to watch a classic pre-'65 trials event. Riding all up and down that road were lots of heavily modified 1960's trials bikes with straight through exhausts, no lights and the smallest numberplates in the world (usually tip-exed across the back mudguard). Not a copper in sight.

Thinking interesting!
one rule for some, one rule for others due to one being a easier target and "causing" more problems?

You think if they pulled all those lot over, that they would have that same event there next year?

Unfortunatly, you guys are classed as "passers by" and get the shitty end of the stick, I'm afraid!

Not entirely on the same subject, but look round here (Sheffield) on a football day. All the rules of not parking on double yellow lines and not walking in packs of 20 down the middle of the road, all goes out of the window, simply because it generates so much cash and publicity for their city/county/town. I got pulled at the checkpoint they set up at Bridge of Orchy on Sunday. Had 5 miles of other bikes warning me to slow down, which I did, but they still pulled me over. It was loose gravel and as he was checking my plates and tyres another bike was pulled over, locked his rear on the gravel and arrived in a huge dust cloud sending the policemen jumping out the way Very Happy

I felt sorry for the guy in the back of the unmarked car though. He'd obviously just come along the massive straight headed south into Bridge of Orchy. I hate to think what speed they caught him at Rolling Eyes

I wondered what all the old trail bikes were and saw some kind of event at Fort William. Didn't stay long though, just refuelled and turned around. Just getting miles on my new Z1000 to run it in.

We passed them on the Saturday up that same bit of road. There was loads of them. I didn't even think they had a number plate at all. I'm not even sure they were even old enough to be on the road.

I found wheelying towards the people in the middle of the road last time I was near a Reading football match quickly persuaded them of the foolishness of their actions Smile.
