I had a girl from my office today ask if she could borrow my lid so that she could have a ride on the back of this other guys bike (he's new at work and she's smitten Rolling Eyes). Of course i said "piss off" because my lid is expensive and key to my safety - she could drop it or anything Exclamation Plus she didn't have any safety gear and i thought it was irresponsible.

The new guy didn't see my problem though and said he lends his out all the time! Shocked

I know i did the right thing (in my mind) but i'm just curious as to why you would lend something that potentially could save your life one day?

I would have done the same thing, I wouldn't even lend my spare lid to anyone - apart from a mate or something. A bit off topic but I seen a device in MCN this week that can detect whether your helmet is damaged in the event of dropping it - it's only £20.

I used to be bothered about that sort of thing but Im not now. Id lend my pillion helmet out tho.

id agree that you shd lend her some leathers too not just a helmet. if she wont fit in your leathers you could give that reason for lending the helmet as you dont want her to ride without full protection

as long as he is careful, just a helmet and gloves is probably ok.

its true that a helmet does mould to the shape of your head so someone elses head could deform it in a different way so it wdnt fit your head so well

ive dropped my helmet a few times so its not perfect now

tell the bloke to buy a second hand helmet off ebay to use as a pillion helmet, i got mine for a tenner with no postage as i picked it up locally

One of the ways I got into biking was by going on the back of mates' bikes, meaing that one of them would have to lend me their lid. So yes, I'd lend my lid to a mate.

A friend of a friend? If I trusted them (to tell me if it had gotten damaged) then yes.

To a girl (or boy) so some other bloke (or girl) I do not know can impres him/her? No, I wouldn't.

You're well within your rights there Leggy_Girl, I don't lend my main lid out but then again I've got two or three spare lids anyway, even so if it's for anything more than a one off "emergency" then I'll hassle said mate to pick up a cheap lid of their own.

I only lend my helmet out to the people I take pillion.

I give them my nice new one because my old helmet has been bashed about a lot. Rather they are safer than me seeing as I have their life in my hands.

I'd lend my Shark out if anyone needed it - usually pillions (my bike or someone elses, doesn't matter) as long as it fits them.

My Arai - no way Pedro.

Been thinking about this and I suppose the answer is no. I lent it to my son when OH took him to school but that was back in the days when we thought he wasn't interested in bikes. (How wrong can you be)? Other than that I wouldn't lend it to anyone. It's mine, I paid for it, maybe not the most expensive helmet in the world but I NEED it.

I wouldn’t lend mine out, the person could drop it or any thing and I wouldn’t know. Mines not even expensive, but I just wouldn’t want it to get damaged and become useless if I have an accident.
