Hey there, just a quick question here.

I'm 17, I have a provisional license and I'm just wondering that once I pass my test whether I will be able to ride a bigger bike immediately or whether or not I'll have to wait two years before I will be allowed.

Simple question but if you could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks alot.

Adam.

Edit: Nevermind, I read another post which answered my question.

When you pass your test you can ride any size CC bike, however it should be restricted to 33bhp for two years.

Go and get your test done, get that two year clock ticking.

I think you should just ride a 125 for 2 years instead of restricting a big bike and then when the 2 years are up get a bigger bike!

You really need to have at least a yera getting used to riding on roads, anticipating traffic etc. Do your apprentaship as it were.

Plus I would be jealous that you have a big bike at 17, when I could'nt.

Your insurance company will find out though if you end up having a bad smash involving other traffic. And even if you wasnt at fault you wont be able to gain anything back. Worth the risk?

Rather not risk my bike/licence personally else I wouldve just took my A2 test and not my DAS. Each to there own though Smile

Slightly off topic but anyone heard anything about the way the bike licences will work. Heard someone say thats its gonna be in stages with tests?

Thanks alot for the replies, I appreciate it.

I've booked my theory test for the 3rd of May, hopefully I'll pass.

Yeah, my father also commented on getting a bigger bike and 'restricting' it, as it were Wink. He has built his own chopper, hopefully I'll be able to ride that if he doesn't mind (he has a CB750 and a F6C Valkyrie, least he could do is lend me his chop' Razz).

Wish me luck, I'm really going to need it!

I can think of few worse vehicles as an introduction to 'big' bikes than a CB750 chop. They are absolute dinosaurs of bikes, weight a ton and have a pretty brutal power delivery. Being a chop, this will be exascerbated as it no-doubt has pod air filters and straight through pipes which will make it roar, pop and bang at low revs then suddenly take off in a clamour of induction howl and arm-stretching acceleration as the engine speed builds.

You will need big arm muscles and balls of steel (and an arse of concrete if it is a hardtail) to ride one.

I had a shot of my mates standard DOHC CB750 and it was a monster. You had to bully the thing about and it fought you every step of the way. Very rewarding and fun to ride but not exactly a novices bike.

Just because they are old, doesn't mean they are slow.

I knew I typed something wrong there.

He has a Valkyrie, a CB750 and a chopper he built himself.

No harm in me having a go Smile.

To be honest, the CB750 is his Misses', and it isn't running.
