The woman may well be in absolute bits and not able to sleep with worry after being witness to this accident. It happens.
So why should she have to pay for damage to her own car caused by the accident out of her own pocket as well.
Simple answer, she shouldnt.
And if you were in her shoes and it was going to cost you £300 to get a metalic finish panel repaired, you would have the same attitude too unless you are loaded.
So dont be self rightous.

If it was damage not connected with this incident, Id agree with you. But why should she be out of pocket or lose her ncb simply because someone else had an accident thats nothing to do with her.

Thumbs Up Well said.

I got in to see Andy at about 12.30 this afternoon, and he's suprisingly alert considering he's on a morphine drip.

He was very moved by the card, and says to thank everyone for their "incredible generosity" (that was before I mentioned the fund).

Talking of which, he has every intention of getting back on two wheels as soon as possible. He was unaware his bike was written off (I suspect he's been forgetting stuff he's been told already, on account of the morphine) and was quite gutted until I mentioned the fund. It cheered him up immensely, after he'd got over the shock. He's also aware that people have offered projects in case the fund doesn't make the nut. "I don't know what to say" is what he said. Which says it all really. Laughing That'll have a very positive effect on his mental well-being and recuperative powers, as I'm sure everyone can imagine. Thumbs Up

Siggi,

He's lucky to be alive.

Your job as a mate should be to make sure that he realises that.

Not to encourage him in further madness.

What if it's worse next time ?

The power restriction law is there to prevent guys his age from ending up in his exact situation (or worse).

Having said that, I'm glad your mate is doing as well as he is.

I hate visiting people in that situation.

Hotdog.

Hi Siggi,

Siggi wrote:
What madness, getting blown into a kerb by a powerful gust of wind? Being caught unawares by a woman in a car suddenly switching lanes? Both of those are possible explanations

Possible, yes.

Probably, no and maybe.

The term you are looking for is 'preferable'.

As in 'I prefer these explanations'.

And by the way, the guys his age that were flying Sopwith Camels in WW 1 weren't endangering other road users, closing major roads for hours or ignoring power restrictions.

I'm not saying guys won't be guys, just that it is nice if they can live through the experience - he nearly didn't.

Officer: So you want to be a fighter pilot.
Recruit: A Starfighter Pilot, Sir.
O: And why particularly the Starfighter?
R: Because Sir, I am in love with this aircraft. This magnificent engine of steal and gleam.
O: That's very poetic. Please continue.
R: This aerocynamic Delilah. Its uptilted wings and sidewinder rockets. Its clear curving cockpit cover, the whirling of dials and needles. The illustrious uniform of the Federal German Airforce. The click of the heels in salute, the flare of the jacket, the wide, long-skirted hang of it, and oh, the low shiny peak of the cap.
O: I think that's enough.
R: But Sir, the danger, and the glory of death. A young and dashing life gone up in flames. Blonde maidens weeping. To die for one's country. To set forth in a silver lance too joust with the forces of darkness.
O: They don't always crash, you know.
R: It would be an honour to crash in such a plane.
O: To be mangled and scorched?
R: To be hideously mutilated beyond the recognition of one's own mother.

Joe,

Picking the guy up and placing him on another vehicle that he clearly doesn't have the skill/experience to control is not in anyone's best interests.

Maybe not everyone enjoys seeing people smashed up in hospital beds ?

OK then, then that's your point made, obviously some will disgree with you on this. Do you think this wouldn't have happened if Andy was on a lower capacity bike, maybe a 33 bhp bike which is still capable of 100mph, often with worse brakes and suspension?

Erm...he probably would have been on the SV restricted.

How would it's brakes and suspension have been worse ?

For that matter, I don't know of any modern motorcycle with worse brakes and suspension.

So, yes, I do think it wouldn't have happened.

In fact, I know it wouldn't have happened.

Hotdog.

Do you know exactly how/why the crash happened?

If yes, can you please explain for the rest of us how the excess power caused this.

Can you also confirm that if the bike had been restricted the same wouldn't of happened.

No? Thought not, so STFU.
