Hi

this might sound daft, but I´m over in Nice visiting my girlfriend and tomorrow I need to go somewhere so the cheapest option for me is to rent a little scooter... 38 euros for the day.

I´ve had my bike license 5 years now but I missed out on scooter ownership, went straight to 125 at 17.
So, any tips? do I need to use the back brake more? (i have visions of going flat out and trying to snatch the clutch in for another gear, ouch). Also, with the auto transmission, does the bike have to be on its centrestand to start? i know the rental guy should explain these things but my french is limited so asking specific questions will be tricky.

Brakes are brakes. Front is more efficient than the back so use them exactly as you would on a bike. You have ridden a pushbike I take it? No difference. And no it doesn't have to be on the centre stand, a twist and go has a bit of 'take up' on the throttle.

The front brake will lock easier if you snatch it than it would on a bike (3 front lock ups on a speedfight, stoppies on a cagiva planet Very Happy). You'll feel a wee bit scared at first, it feels weird getting on my scooter after a month not riding it, and i mean it feels really alien. About 20 mins riding and you should be fine.

it will feel unstable at first and a bit dangerous, but when you get used to it, this becomes being nippy
