Basically, is it just me or do people notice in some Towns, Regions they drive better than other. For example took my bike for its service, taking in Bolton- Manchester- Woolston- Warrington Town centre.

Most of the drivers round the Greater Manchester area, are tossers, whereas when i got to Warrington, everyone seem to be on the ball, nobody driving up my arse, not even Chav boy in his bling bling saxo, giving way in the right places, proper Mirror signal Manovure etc etc.

Or am i just kidding myself here?

Worst place ive driven is South Manchester, Longsight and Stockport!

I always observe that the further south you go, the busier the roads become, and the more aggressive the driving, and the less lane discipline.

Its exceedingly clear if you drive from Newcastle to London, and back, a few times as I have done.

The main places I have riden are Reading and Swindon and the difference is amazing. They are so aggressive in Reading and so laid back in Swindon. The time of day also seems to make a huge difference on the way people drive.

Smile
I have to agree with you on the stockport thing, the A6 from hazel grove to manchester has to be the worst bit of road ive ever driven/ridden along. Stupid bus lanes dont help !!
However i am currently working in macclesfield, and though its not as busy as manchester the driving is truly awful, no indicators EVER seems to be a rule, as does the old favourite of parking on the wrong side of the road and then just pulling out, obviously with no signal.
I got my Bandit with a view to riding into work, but to be honest i dont think i would survive the week. Shocked

Yeah the A6 is truelly awful now, i prefer if i have to go to Hazel Grove, to get into Machester and navigate towards Kingsway the A34, and head towards the Airport and into Stockport Via Heald Green and Cheadle Hulme, so much Safer. A34 isnt a bad road.

Warrington drivers are pretty good actually in my experience...

Liverpool is a bit of a mixed bag, they go from either really good to fucking abysmal.

I grew up in the South Wales valleys, and find that drivers there tend to be more courteous and laid back.
I've since moved to the centre of Cardiff where attitudes are much more aggressive, and lane discipline is the only driving skill that is "relaxed"

Yorkshire drivers are top!!!

Couldn't believe it when I have been driving in London, nobody thanks you, no one waves.

We let this one guy out who'd made a big mistake in his car, he
was so shocked we stopped and waved him over. He was liked stunned.

One thing that really pissed me off one day. turn into a road cars on right hand side, me going up a hill on left hand side, so in the eyes of the highway code i should have priority!? but anyway, i decide be nice, let 1/2 cars past and then go, get a cheers mate wave, then i set off then this prick in a BMW come tear arsing past, we meet and he forces his way past me clips my elbow and beeps at me! Middle Finger Thats not my fault, i didnt wave him on he just assumed i would give way, not a chance im not waiting like a lemon all night when its my right of way in the first place, im sorry but i turned round and knocked on his window and demanded an apology., i got one, obviously didnt like a 6ft 1 full armoured bike shouting obcenities at him. Small weak little pompus prick on his Nokia business phone in company car. Hiding in his car.
Cars do not make you the hardest person in the world like car drivers think they do.

Some shit drivers around where i live, like most places i guess. Starting to get a bit of road rage now though at the fuckin incompitence of some people.

An example of this morning this woman in a fuck off bmw is at a junction, sees me (im going about 40) and no joke im about 15 meters from her, she looks at me then pulls out right infront of me. I had to slam on my brakes and use the other side of the road to not hit her. She drove off as if nothing had happened.

I fucking then followed her and kept me finger on the horn (twin rally air horns Twisted Evil )

The bitch then pulled into a side road trying to loose me where i followed her. I hope she shit herself thinkin i was gonna stab/rape her!!!!! Was a dead end so i just turned around and drove off. Middle Finger

BMW's should be banned! just like taxi's why is it as soon as you park your arse on plush German leather, people turn into a prick. Must be part of the owner agreement " You must be a complete wanker/bean flicker and just general twat with no disregard for anyone but yourself" 1 series drivers make me laugh " Oh look at me i drive a BMW "

End of the day matey's its the billy basic model!

I figure anywhere on the coast, you're in immediate danger. Simply because all the OAPs flock there to die, and they continue to drive when they do so. I live 5 miles off the coast, and I work right on the very coast. I was riding down the seafront road today, pootling along happily; I had only ridden my bike for about half an hour at this point, first time I'd ridden it, and some old git pulls out of a space right into my path. I panic braked and locked up the rear, but managed to get it under control and swerve around him, stopping right next to his window. I gave him a proper piece of my mind, and beeped the horn repeatedly. Being the old git he was, he just waved his hand at me and went on his merry way. Sick Middle Finger

So I pulled in a few metres on, took off my helmet and gloves, and have a cigarette there on my bike, to try and calm down and stop my hands shaking. Lo and behold, who comes into the space in front of me? Yes, it's old git, and he's looking a bit worried that I'm sitting there. So I just yell 'learn to fcking drive!' Of course, retrospectively, it's a bit late for him to do that. Rolling Eyes

I've always found it's got a bit to do with whether you know the area or not.

London's well known for aggressive driving but I always found it worse in the East than the West. But then, I know west London pretty well, I'll be the one in the correct lane getting annoyed at the people making mistakes. Send me to the east side and I'm the one trying to read the road signs and diving across 4 lanes at the last moment, so the aggression is directed towards me.

Go to France - they all drive really fast but they are fantastic at lane discipline, giving bikes space and not pulling out in front of you (except in Paris where they are all as mad as a goose on stilts)
