Can't say much because I've got a claim going on, but basically I was stopped in a residential area waiting to turn right, when a car hit me from behind at about 40mph.

I went off the BACK of the bike and landed on his bonnet, the bike was in gear and it drove itself away without a rider until it hit a pavement a good way away (I couldn't even find it, a load of mates went running after it though). I rolled down the bonnet and ended up getting dragged along the road with glass going everywhere.

The car was absolutley FUCKED. The bonnet had dented so much from the impact that the radiator had burst and water was pissing everywhere.

The bike isn't too bad - few scuffs on LHS and the whole backend (mudguard, number plate, L plate etc) has all been demolished (it just disintergrated). He hit the wheel and the tyre has taken a lot of the impact - nothing's bent on the bike.

As for me. Well, not good. I've been in Hospital with internal bleeding, think I've done something to the bone in my elbow, brusing all over, my back is fucked and my neck's in agony.

I was waiting to turn right into a friend's house when it happened, and a big group of mates (male and female) were stood outside. They saw the whole thing, and I feel really bad because it really did shock some (well, all) of them. Had a load of girlies nursing me whilst the ambulance took its time getting to me Thumbs Up

The police have spoke to me and said it wasn't my fault, so hopefully the claim should be fairly straight forward.

I'm never getting back on the NSR again though. This is the 4th BAD crash I've had on it, it's just an unlucky bike. I've had other bikes and not had problems, just something about this one. 2 of those crashes have been from people running into me, too, not even my fault.

I'll come back to bikes when I can sit on one again, but first I want to do my full test. Fuck pissing around with 125s any longer, I'll pay for a car and get the car test all sorted with the claim money, and then I'll sort myself out with a nice bike.

Don't know what to do with the NSR though, I've got a feeling it'll be a write off (probably a cat C or D), so I guess I can either break it or sell the whole thing. I rode it back from the scene before the pain hit in (was still in shock), and it rode nice and straight. Nothing out of line I can see, having very briefly examined it.

Happy days Neutral

Jon

I'd be playing on that bad back and neck of yours too. You might find an injury claim could leave you with BIG bucks!!

A mate of mine was hit by a car in a similar manner and has never worked since and has more than a dozen bikes now Thumbs Up

Am off work ill now. I can't lift anything and even moving my head hurts my back. I really don't want to say much claim-wise because I'm a little paranoid about making stuff like that public, but hopefully I'll be able to cover all my losses, yeh.

There's no need to play on it, you should see the state of me Laughing It's the worst pain imaginable, this is why you should buy a back protector Mad If/when I get back on a bike, I know I'll be investing in one.

lol, Lux.

I could have died this time, it really does open your eyes. There was a car sat infront of me waiting to turn right, just as he went, JUST AS HE WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, the car went into the back of me. Imagine if the other car had have arrived a second earlier - I'd have been squashed between the 2 cars Shocked Or if I'd rolled underneath the car. I was so lucky to walk away, even if I am battered now.

My wrist is kaning now, too, can barely type Crying or Very sad

You said it kid Thumbs Up

Suppose this kind of backs up my post in that thread a little while ago, about back protectors and who wears them.

Sounds like you were pretty lucky / unfortunate... but i wouldnt really blame it on the bike... Im a supersticious person myself, really badly, but i dont think i could give up on a bike because of it... A jacket, yeah. A pair of gloves, yeah. A helmet, yeah. A Bike? Not for that reason alone...

Just out of curiosity, did you have a new helmet when you bought this bike? Did you get a new set of boots or anything when you bought this bike?

Hope you get well soon mate Thumbs Up

What colour is your bike/kit etc, maybe the colour is blending into the background? Thinking

One broblem i notice is "narrow" bikes and pushbikes are difficult to see if they are moving/stopped. Thats why you see police bikes very easily, because they are "wide" and bright. Panniers, and all the fairings make them some of the widest bikes.

How many times have you seen a honda goldwings that is invisible? Rolling Eyes

Anyway get well soon Very Happy

Sorry to hear about that mate. I had some pretty piss poor luck in my NSR days, but these things happen.

It's all part of life, theres little we can do to prevent things like this, all we can do is learn to deal with them the best way we can.

I know it's a bit fresh, and tell me to stop being a twat, but if you want rid of the bike, then give me a PM. Leave it a while, and don't rush into getting rid, you may regret it, but when it's all sorted and settled, if you want a buyer for it, then let me know.

Good luck getting better mate. Thumbs Up

Flip, colour looks ok from the side Thinking

The only thing that worries me is, "what does it look from the rear"?

The problem i notice is that in a typical senario of rear ending, most of the time the rear is not bright in most motorbike/bicycles.

(1) lack of bright "diffused" rear light compared to a car. LED lights will make it worse.
(2) If your top is dark, virtually only your number plate is bright, if that is small as well, some blind fool could rear end someone easily.

Rear ending is the most common/worse accodent and it scares me. Embarassed

I have been trying to solve this visibility problem for a while, and talking to a few people they guess, bikes are less visible and most careless drivers cant judge their speed or even tell if it is moving or not Shocked

Colour doesn't matter from the rear if they aren't paying attention.

I've got a car, and I'm having lessons ATM..

Just loved the bike to pieces (literally Confused ), and I was going to take my test in time for summer. Car for winter, bike for summer. I still want to do that, a bit, but right now I wouldn't dare ride a bike.. even a loud bang like a car door slamming shut makes me jump, I'm really skittish.

Keep having nightmares about it too, argh Neutral

Youll settle down in a few days mate, i wouldnt worry too much about it. Just take it easy for the next few days and dont take too many rash decisions.

Theres lots of time between now and summer for taking your test / getting a car / new bike etc...

You hear stories about big bikes being safer and easier to ride - more obvious to cars etc... and they are right.

My bet is that if you take your full test and get a big bike - youll re-gain your confidence as car drivers DO notice you more than when your on a small little thing with l plates. Sad but true.

Either way, good luck with what ever you do mate, and if i was closer i would offer you some kind of support Thumbs Up

Hi Jonnay,

Sorry to hear about the accident. GWS.

Arrow Were you holding the brakes on at the lights?
Arrow Were you checking your mirrors frequently?
Arrow Did you have an escape route planned?

Checking your mirrors and decide that if you see something coming up behind you at 40mph to storm off down the road as fast as you can? With a car ahead of you...

I would struggle to find an escape route in a situation like that mate... Escpecially being stationary...

Toby, I was stopped holding the brake in yeh (not sure if I was meant to be, but I always do), in first gear with the clutch in, indicating right.

I was about to check my mirrors before I moved off to do the right turn, but just as I was about to look I heard his wheels screeching, and just froze looking straight ahead waiting for the smash. Then it all went dark.

Only escape route I had was straight ahead, and there was a car right infront of me until the last second before the smash, as I've said. I could have gone right, but then he would have hit me side-on, and I wouldn't have much of a right leg left, I wouldn't imagine.

Thanks for the support everyone, and cheers method... I'd imagined a bigger bike might be a little more visible, but even so - there's really no excuse for him to miss ANY vehicle be it a 125 or a 1200. I imagine he may have been distracted by the passengers or something, who knows.

Out of curiosity what was the blokes excuse for hitting you, was it the usual,

'sorry mate, I didn't see you'?

First off it was "Sorry mate, I didn't see you"
Then
"Sorry, my fault, didn't leave enough distance"
Then when he'd talked to his pissed mates in the car
"Why were you stopped in the middle of the road anyway?"
Then after more thinking
"You stopped too sharp"
(the fact that he came along a straight road AFTER I'd stopped and failed to see me is irrelevant, apparently)

Doesn't matter what "excuse" he has though, the old bill have said it's his fault, end of story.

Its amazing that people can injure you and then come out with that crap.

The police arent much use for most things, but its good to have them telling the tosser that it was his fault.

This is astonishing, how the hell can you get hit so may times? You would probably get fewer injuries walking through new orleans head to toe in a white cloak than what you've had on that bike.

GWS Thumbs Up people in your area really don't have a friggin' clue about bikes Thumbs Down
