Basically, my bike is killing me, its costing me far too much to run.

I make £200 a week for 40 hours, my weekly outgoings are

£25 a week keep
£50 a week social for weekend
£120 a end of month for loan
£35 finance on dexx per month

But recently everything seems to keep cropping up, birthdays, mobile bills which are stupid. And i am struggling for money, i had a day off this week, which made me come away with £158 for the week.
I really cant afford this bike, its only a 125 and its pissing me off how it costs far too much money to run a maintain, it looks shit. Corrision from winter, rounded off another bolt today thru winter, chain is shagged, all kinked and rusty. Maybe its time to get rid Crying or Very sad

It only gets more expensive. I think most non bikers think bikes are cheap to run (i did) untill they actually get one and find out it costs a fortune to keep one in tip top condition.

The reason i've held off buying a 600 sports is not because of the initial purchase but how much it costs to keep one on the road.

£50 a week for social stuff isn't a lot but some people have literally nothing left after paying bills so you aren't that bad off.

You can always try your hand at being a rent bwoy. Razz

This is a measly cbr 125, which is in desperate need of chain and sprockets. I just can not afford it, i think its probably better if i get the bus for a while till i can afford to get new chain and sprockets. Everything this month seems to crop up

2 birthdays
decks finance
loan money
keep money
Aniversary present, original plan of going a hotel has cocked up Crying or Very sad

I just feel such a let down to my girlfriend because i cant buy her jack shit.

you'll definatelly find the cost and inconvienience of buses alot more than you bargained for if you do decide to get rid. I dont understand it myself my bike costs almost nothing to run, insurance is next to nothing, tax and maintenance isn't much atall and 10 quid will last me a week to 2 weeks using it every day. What on earth else do you spend your bike money on other than that lot? tyres are less than 45 quid for 2 with my bike, it'd cost you around that for a single car tyre (depending on the car you got). The whole reason I bought my bike and done my licence was because when I sat down and worked it out propperly it turned out to be far cheaper than using the bus everyday and waiting around an hour for it in the wind and rain.

I dunno, i can afford my bike, £6.52 a week petrol, insurance is paid off, its just, its got a kinked and rusty chain, i dont want it to go on me. But i cant afford replace it yet for at least another 3 weeks. Do i just lube it up and hope for the best, or stop riding for a few weeks?

On an average wage of 200 a week you would be left with 40-50 pounds. taking into consideration your petrol money.

You pay keep, so i assume you are living with parent/s?
It might be worth your while working out exactly WHAT you have going out over the course of the month and splitting it up per week.
The first couple of weeks will be hard (so maybe it's an idea to have a weekend in?) just until you play 'catchup'
But then it should be plain sailing!

BTW not being condescending here but my O/H and I run a house, car, bike and have two kids and a dog on an average of 330 a week Wink (It is possible for you)

And hey! Your G/f chould understand! And explain to the people who's birthday it is too! (unless it's kids of course!) Rolling Eyes

Thing is tho, id be happy to stay in sometimes with gf, but its all a matter of wether her step Mam wants to go downstairs (they live in a pub) and we cant really sit in. I dont know it may just be this month had shit loads to pay out this month. I think i just need 2/3 weeks of full pay again to get me straight, but with bank bastard holidays, which frankly piss me off im going to get £166 for next 2 weeks Rolling Eyes

I suppose im just going to have sit in with gf, on saturdays downstairs in her pub, have couple of pints n get bus home, £1.75 a pint, so £10 will do, which cuts weekend costs down.

But my chain worries me, its ajusted right, with plenty ajustment left, but there is the odd kinked link and surface, rust, now do i brust it lightly and lube it or not ride?

Whip off the chain and soak it in oil overnight. It will give you a few extra miles.

Cleaning a bike, and using the right sized spanners (so you dont round heads off) costs nothing. A bus will work out dearer than petrol, and the money you piss up the wall in a week is more than I have had spare over the last 6 months, and I earn £20,000.

Work out outgoings on a spread sheet and calculate how much you have got. Allow £5 a month for chain lube aswell. Wink

There's the key.

Maybe it's my age,but I view spending money on a phone to be ludicrous.

Mine is a walkie talkie, and a tenner will last me 3 or 4 months.

I know a girl who spends £300+ per month on sending texts and talking shite.

Such a waste.

Bills are annoying, i can barely afford to run a stupid 50cc bike! What with 36 pound a month insurance and 50 pound i have to pay each month for the loan on the bike! May not sound a lot but considering i only earn 96 pound a month (im only 16). Its hard. Petrol and oil with 10 pound a month Thumbs Up

Sounds to me like you need to cut down your social costs. £50 per week Shocked Just halfing that and you should have an extra £25 per week to play with. £25 left is still 10 pints at least. What exactly do you do with £50 each weekend?

Just have one weekend without spending social money and you'll have £50 in your pocket to sort your bike out.

Mate... 65 quid is a g of coke and 10 pints.

You need to sort your priorities (specially if you're scare of girls Laughing)

First night i went out here again, i spent 45 quid in a club. Thought fuck that, and since have just pubbed and drugged it.

Better nights, longer nights, more sex, and less agro.

£2.50 a week oil

£12 a week petrol

The rest goes on paddock stands, paint, sandpaper, chain lube etc...

My bike totally skints me

Basically the way I see it, you've got two options which are either earn more or cut back on your spending.

Any chance that you can get yourself an evening or part time job to get those loans paid off? Once those loans have been paid off it could save you £155/month

Cutting down on your spending is hard, but no impossible, as others have mentioned £50/week is quite a considerable amount a month.

Also if there is any stuff you don't use or need, shove them on e-bay, and use the money to try and pay off the finance.

How many payments have you got left on the decks & CBR?

The reason why you can't afford your bike is because you bought brand new, and are not maintaining it yourself.

Your chain is most probably perfectly fine. Like someone said above, soak the stiff links in oil then work them back and forth till they free up. A little bit of rust on the side plates is not a problem. The sideplates on my chain are caked in rust due to neglecting it over the winter, and I don't give a fuck.

Totally agree. I bet the 1000km service probably cost you about £50 if you didn't get it chucked in with the sale. You probably could have done it yourself for £10. Anything like filters, plugs, clutch plates, brake pads - just do it yourself. It's easy, and it's better to fuck up now than on a bigger, more expensive bike.
