Im thinking of making a trailer for my bike.

Any rules or regs I have to follow, or would it be better to buy one?

There are, they can not exceed certain width/lengths, weights, but the bar must be so far from the rear wheel and that sort of thing... personally i'd get a cheap small trailer (any small trailer) from loot/admag change the tyres for newuns and modify it..

Out of interest, what bike is pulling? what whats it going to be pulling???

I do have the full set of laws somwhere in my bookmarks, i'll post it when i find it Razz

EDIT: here https://www.bmf.co.uk/touring/pages/trailers.html

A trailer for your bike to go in? Just ride it!

A trailer for your bike to pull? Whats the point it'll make your riding miserable!

just out of interest in cargo terms how much are you allowed (other than max weight considerations) , to carry on your bike?, I carried upwards of 320 litres on the motorway once,

Or are the rules just that it must be securely fastened to the bike , such that if I felt like it I could strap a fridge/bed to the back of my bike and lug it about like that?.

I live in Germany, but will be back in the UK for six months as of may.
I need my car to carry all my stuff over, I also use it off road. (landrover).
As I have just bought my bike and summer is coming id like bring it with me.

Metal is not to much off a problem and I can weld.

Don't think there are any provided its a secure load and its leveled propperly (say you wanted to carry beanbags, if they were ratched down in bags, even over the top of the trailer, thats a secure load, if it was bowling balls gaffataped down, thats not)

A mate of mines been arround europe with a trailer on his and said its not a big deal provided everything is set up propperly, if your takeing it to italy to givre your bike a spanking arround the alps then its not going to be suitable..

EDIT: For carrying a bike, maybe rent one? or borrow one to copy? if your useing it in germany i think they might well be a bit more strict with the regs on these, might need to be TUV (?) approvved trailer?

so when we see pictures of folks in India with massive massive loads , such loads as long as they do not break weight limits (my honda has a 410kilo limit) , and are securely tied down with a ton of bungies and ratchet tie downs , its ok?.

Depends on your interpritation of a secure load against a coppers... (an unsafe load could affact stability, high motorway winds on the beanbags will make it unsafe i'd reckon)

If it looks like its takeing the piss then you'll get stopped, or if theres an accident because of it then there no question whos going to be in the poop!
