Possibly you're right on the 6600 mate I think they'll overclock quite well but never used one so don't know. I've just always found in the past that my overclocking hasn't made that big a difference (except for unlocking the extra pipes on the 6800).
A big part of it is luck in the quality of the components on your board so I've maybe been unlucky.
I've nothing against overclocking if you can get good results but I think some people's expectations are a bit too high. Sounds like you've managed to get a decent boost though.
