Sorry if this has been covered, but what do you do when filtering between slow moving traffic and you a police car ahead of you. obviously i would assume that they would see you approaching in their rear view mirrors, but do you

carry on as normal and pass them
or
stay cautious and drop back

What is the rule if any

I also noticed two bikers behind me and were a little cautious also

What do think

Many people hang back and dont even overtake a copper doing 60mph on a motorway, the limits 70, so overtake them. Filtering should be the same, as long as you are not tearing through the traffic, not constantly changing lanes and are within 10-15mph of the cars, then yep filter Thumbs Up

Yeah I'd filter past them.

Stinkwheel once said he had a police car flash it's rear facing "pull over" type sign. So he gave them a wave and carried on filtering.

If you're legal, carry on, filtering is legal, kinda. Certainly not illegal.

Presuming I'm at legal speeds for the road, I would slow down a bit so that it's only 10mph or so over the traffic and carry on; presuming my bike is genarlly legal etc Smile.

I try not to give them any chance to stop me. 9 out of 10 coppers wouldn't raise an eyebrow but the odd one can be a twat and even if they know they can't get you for anything they'll pull you over and break your balls.

I never used to, but now im more familiar to the rules of filtering I do, I just make sure I dont go into the opposite lane unless Im dead certain theres know cars there, I take it slow, 10mph or less, and I stop behind the car infront at a zebra crossing, But I normally do that anyway.

Filter past them as long as you dont take the piss, a hell of a lot of coppers ride bikes or know people that do and therefore generally biker friendly, most old bill have got more important things to worry about then a bike filtering past them.

I filter as normal, and the same thing on motorways, if they're doing less than the limit I'll get past them.

I'm a bit more wary of them now though, seeing as my rear tyre's really low and if they're having a bad day then you never know what they might do, since I have a race can and a small numberplate as well.

I've filtered past plenty on dual carriageways with no problem; I just try and be a bit more cautious and keep a closer eye on the speed limit that's all.

As long as the bike and my riding were both legal, and not drawing undue attention I'd carry on filtering

Providing you are 'legal', especially with regard to the road markings (filter past one on zig-zags and it is going to hurt!) and I would filter past no problem.

What you also have to remember is if you are in a situation where you are filtering, a police car can't follow you anyway because he is stuck in traffic.

Exactly the case with the one Gazdaman mentioned. The guy in the police car looked like he was fuming but stuck as he was in 10 miles of stationary traffic on the Huntingdon bypass, there wasn't a whole hell of a lot he could do about it. I'd have been pissed off too if I was in a car.

I filtered past one (carefully!) in Southampton the other day and I dipped the clutch as i passed him because the baffle seems to have fallen out of my Scorpion exhaust!

Filter as normal. Roads policing cars tend to move out of the way to assist which is always helpful Thumbs Up

I'd do it on cross hatching as long as there was a broken line along the edge of it. You can enter cross-hatching with a broken line "Providing it is safe to do so".

If there is a solid line, you aren't allowed to cross it.

Exactly, i was pulled over by a police bike rider for crossing a solid white line whilst filtering and he said that is one of the few things he would pull someone up on whilst filtering, the other one is an excessive speed differential between you and the vehicles around you

I tend to just tuck in behind them somewhere and take it easy. Don't like attracting more attention to myself than I already do.

like riichy sed, id deffo go past as im totally legal and if i was feelin a little "gangsta" id backfire the beatchhhh, but all in all, if u are staying safe and feel filtering is a safe option, then go for it, even if they do decide to stop you then they have sum pretty wank excuse to come up with, i was once stopped as i filtered thru traffic, i came to the end of the road with a roundabout, police flashed me so i checked mirror and pointed as if to say " what me cunstable" and proceeded to pull in, the copper got out, kicked my tyres, prodded em abit, stared down my exhaust, pulled keys out of ignition then asked me to stand away from the bike, when i asked why i had been stopped he sed" drop the attitude or ill have ya for section 399986" must be a crime to want to be informed from the law why u have been stopped, he then ran a few checks or whatever and came over and sed ok mate be on ya way, still no reason to why he stopped me but he must have held me up for at least 10 minutes, pointless and wank, the worst thing was, when i goot home which is about half a mile from where they apprehended me my birds car had had its mirrors kicked off, if they hadnt been such cox then perhaps they may have caught a criminal, imagine that fookin hell lol, anyway rant over lol Twisted Evil
