Evenin all Wink

Today i decided to get on doing the valve clearances (needed to "modify" the faring with a dremel to get at the rocker covers Confused ) one side was spot on.. the other side.. the exhaust was too loose (not massively though) and the inlet too tight...

As i understand it the clearances closeing up is more than likely down to worn/wearing followers, now i'm hopeing the last person to attempt the adjustment wasn't paying attention and set them too tight (doubt it mind Sad ) but its been ran for 7000 odd miles while ive had it, and a few more before that since its last adjusting, so it should have loosened off within that time surely?
(both inlets on the left side were too tight, the inlets are both actuated from the same pushrod on the same cam follower)

So, what should i expect? how long should i give it before checking them again? how serious a problem would it be?

I have a spare engine which i could use to donate the part (at least i'm 99% sure its the same part) as david silver will probably want what i got the engine for...

should i expect a rapid decline? anyone had this themself?

thanks for reading Thumbs Up

(checked it was at the right point in the cycle a few times, so thats not a possibility unfortunately, it runs nicely and more quietly now too btw)

More likely valve recession and bad adjustment. Worn followers are pretty obvious.

Ahhh good stuff.. yes it runs loverly, nice and smooth all the way up as far as ive taken it.. i9ts only done 25k or so, which is bugger all really (considering they will go arorund the clocks twice without much problem taken care of propperly)

Will check it again in a couple of months (unless it becomes more noisey in the mean time)

If it went bang then ive allways got the spare, but did worry a bit i must admit Shocked

Thanks for the reply Thumbs Up

Am thinking ive sent them slightly wrong as its ticking under load a bit now (or i'm imagineing/justnoticeing it) so will check it again when i get chance :/

Its been pretty far out for a good year or so, its going to take a long while to go again i think... by then my spare engine will be up and running i'd guess anyways)
