I tried it out lights on lights off ,

with lights on quite a few more people pulled out on me , a mate had a theory about this that the roads are in such a crap state that the bumps can give the illusion to some drivers you are flashing your head light to let them out,

hence I still ride if I am invisble rather than be in a false sense of security lights on might have

a quick bit of soldering should allow you to regain the option to have lights or not have lights , or even replace your switch gear with some older stuff.

Only time i've had a crash was when someone didn't see me despite me being on a roundabout in broad daylight. I didn't have my lights on, though because my battery was getting low. I stopped using the electric start and used the kick from then on, it's not worth the increased risk of a SMIDSY.

well in a SMIDSY a proper cunt might try the old contributory negligence

"he didn;'t have his lights on"

but then you can trap them with this ,

oh so you saw me without my lights approaching and yet decided to pull out anyway?

= one admission of guilt to careless/dangerous driving

That must be like riding a Volvo!!

I always had them on in training and will always have them on when I get a bike. It can't hurt to, it doesn't guarantee you'll be seen, but the eye is easily caught by a light. Thumbs Up

Get it on full beam, no negative to that apart from maybe straining your bettery.

I always bang it on full. and ive put a 100W lamnp in insteasd of the standard 55.

Anybody who rides with full beam on all the time day or not deserves to be knocked over IMO, one of the things that annoy me the most car or bike.

Apologies, I think of it as Dipped beam being the normal light and full beam being the full whack of light. Smile

What so every other driver should be blinded just because you WANT to be seen.

Attention whore and a danger to roads. Nice combination.

I've had many near misses on the bike and in the car because of cars or bikes leaving the lights on full beam, it really dazzles you.

I always ride with dipped beam on.

Like Joe said this has been talked about loads of times, but i still ride with dipped beam, and always will.

Reason being it is bright enough for people to notice, but not so bright it gives a direct affect on oncoming traffic.

Its also a bonus that you can still use your flasher when your on dipped beam. When your on high beam - your flasher dont work does it? Wink

Agree with Jon, main beam is dazzling whether it's a car or a bike. It's not just the power of your healamp bulb, but the fact that main beam is normally aimed to shine directly in the eyes of oncoming motorists.

If the visability is okay, I normally ride with lights off. Dipped beam does make you a lot more visable, but it's true that bumps and dips in the road make it seem like you are flashing people out. I would never ride with sidelamps, because they are totally useless.

well they obviously are needed to be brighter because i had a car force me into the hard shoulder because he couldnt see a bright green bike with full beam on in the day on a bright day.

and you mean to say that all of the bike cops i have spoken to are a danger to the road.

Well it's illegal so the bike cops don't know shit do they.

I bet the car wouldn't have seen you with full beam if he couldn't see your bike.
