Ive noticed that my Tank makes a whining whistle noise quite a lot...

As a noob, just wanted too know if this is 'normal'...had a quick look through the search but couldnt find anything relevant another....most stuff on about blocked breather pipes.

The bike in question is a GPZ500s, the noise is evident when the tank is warm, when left out in sun or after run. Sounds like air escaping from filler cap and when i open cap to relive pressure the sound stops. but returns quite quickly when i re-close the cap... Ive been using the bike daily with no worries about this noise untill another biker commented on the whistle today...ive checked the breather hose, which appears to be un-blocked....so im guessing its just not air tight around filler cap or this is normal practise....cheers, Ow

My Aprilia RS125 does exactly the same thing. At first I thought it was some electronic thing somewhere, then I realised when I washed the tank, the water stopped the whining noise. It is obviously pressure escaping from the tank, but it hasnt been a problem so far. Its probably nothing to worry about, but next time my bike goes for its MOT im going to get it looked at.

its probarbbly just old seals letting pressure through from the petrol tank.

Mine does it too. Just open the cap to relieve the pressure.

Gives it character and so far nothing bad has come of it. Like I say, gives it a personality.

But then again, I'm weird.

Same views here....i like my Cars/Bikes to have a little character/quirkiness about them, that way you can congratulate them them after getting you out of tight spots.
