Lo all,

Still playing with my cg125 jigsaw puzzle but I am stuck!

The engine runs quite nice and starts easy (like a cg should) but there is a tap tap tap from this thingy as it moves slightly in and out. Please see pics.

This is the part as in the Manual

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mojorit/cg1.jpg

While the engine is running, if I push my thumb hard against it, it does not tap. Sooo, me thinks all I have to do is fit the side casing and its cured. It does not cure it Sad

As far as I know this part of the engine has not been apart. All I have done myself is replace the cam followers that are above this in the actual barrel.

Am I missing something? I am wondering now if somehow the spring behind the plate is missing/broke. So before I get me rotor puller out (ooooherrrr), if anyone can throw any light on this it would be great. Cheers.

Rit.

Could it be the valve timing or something like that?

The diagram shows that a washer should sit in front of the gear shaft, but I can't spot one in your picture. Is it just not showing?

the washer would sit at the opposite end, i cant see that having any effect. the gear shaft seems to be thrusting for some reason.

Did you fit the wave washer on the camfollower shaft, this keeps the camfollowers over to one side and stops them 'floating' ... this could cause the gear assembly to oscillate hence the noise, that wave washer can be bent (very carefully - at your own risk) to increase the pressure.

I think this engine looks like the original japanese one, probly getting on for 30 years old, the shaft thats making the noise isnt fixed so over that period of time it may well have worn a little, its only locked in place by the timing plate and is a loose fit, providing everything is is in place and as you say holding your thumb on it stops the vibration why not run it for a while with a home made shim between the plate and the shaft, just keep an eye on it and make sure it cant fall out and cause damage! well thats what i'd do.

Thanks for all your replies.

I seem to remember that shim. Wouldnt hurt to just lift off the barrel and take a look as that actually makes sense Because like I said, as far as I know the bottom end has not been touched.

I'll try having a look this week inbetween playing with my new (old) toy XJ600 that I got today Very Happy
