Hey y'all,

Been a while since i posted on here last andfor those of you interested, china and japan were a blast. Highly reccomended Thumbs Up

Anyway, i digress. Im going to be purchasing a bike to commute a short distance to the train station on each morning in the near future. The thing is, i have to wear a suit to work every day and i was wondering if anyone else here does too?
Im just curious as to how people get by the crumpled/ messy suit problem?

Don't know how much if at all it would sort creasing, but I'd reccomend looking at a Gimoto Tourismo.

Have to find some way to store it on the bike probably, but very easy to get on and off for a full suit and seems fairly well made etc.

I have to wear one daily - (still find them a pain in the Rse, even after 8 years)! Rolling Eyes

If you can, leave the suit and shoes at work and go casual. I used to roll up my shirt and stick it in a backpack. It got a tiny bit crumpled, but not enough to stop me going without a (suit) jacket. If I had a meeting away from the office (at another site) I used to roll a spare pair of trousers up too and bung them in the backpack along with a pair of shoes. Got away with it every time.

Strangely enough, just yesterday I was talking about starting to commute on the bike again.

BTW just had a quick look at your blog, looks interesting - will have a read through later.

All the best

I have a reputation in Brussels of being the one who turns up in my bike gear with a completely uncrumpled suit, which has come over in my bike luggage.

Mind you, I have no idea how I do it!

Cheers for the replies guys, not so sure about that suit though G! Laughing

Wouldnt bother reading the blog, it got blocked by the chinese service supplier after 2 weeks (due to news leaking past their intricate filters through blogs). i had another 5 weeks in china after this and couldnt be bothered to fill in the gap once i was in japan with free access to it. Plus i was far too busy enjoying myself!

The trip is not quite to brussles, maybe 10 minutes to Maidstone East station from my house Embarassed

Will have a look into whether i can leave suits at work, i start on the 24th so will know then.

cheers again

Kaben Thumbs Up

Iv never had any problems when riding with a suit, just put my textiles over the top. But its easier just to leave it where you work.

I commute.

I have a ruck sack and put trousers in ruck sack and my tie.

Don't bother with textiles on top of your trousers, you will swet in
summer big style, believe me I did. my commute is only 4 miles
and I did.

Put your office clothes in your rucksack.

I take clothes on a monday and leave them till friday.

Obviously I wear a clean shirt every day.

I did do a stint of commuting with a suit, I've got a frank thomas textile oversuit with zips up the legs that cna do over my shirt and trousers, jacket was folder and put in a pannier.

However, you'll need some storage space on the bike. The oversuit totally fills a 45ltr pannier, my helmet, gloves, and boots filled the other one. Can you be bothered to climb in and out of bike gear at each end of a 10 min journey, or is there a bus to the station that you can take?

Commuting by bike started to thouroughly piss me off once I had a car, you shave 2 minutes off your journey by being quicker but add 10 to it with all the messing around at each end.

ditto. Shoes and jacket at work and pants under my draggins.
Can get a bit hot in summer ( Im in Australia)but pants are easier to drop in a back pack and keep tidy.

Do have a cupboard at work to chuck my stuff in when I get there though. Noticed it started to get whiffy in summer with my bike boots sitting in it all day Embarassed . Might give it a spray

Its not really an issue of getting to the station quicker by bike. I have a car, but its going to cost me 5 pounds a day to park it. (£25/ week,£100/month, £1200/year...anyway you look at it, its expensive!)

There are free motorcycle parking bays by the station and it will save me huge amounts of money to ride their instead of going by car.

Only thing is, my job involves alot of interaction with the executives of other companies and i need to look smart (i.e no creases) when i get to work. Confused

im likeley to be buying a motard style bike so wont have panniers. Perhaps i can find some soft luggage for it.

Textile trousers with the winter lining out have plenty of space for uncrumpled suit trousers, shirt and tie under the jacket are fine, and stick the jacket and shoes in panniers, taking care to fold the jacket very loosely to avoid creasing it, and not putting anything on top of it.

Having somewhere to change and stow your bike gear helps too.

I wear my suit trousers underneath my textiles, leave dress shoes at work, put suit jacket in backpack and wear whatever I'm wearing under my suit whether it be shirt, jumper or blouse.

Then at your desk, you just need to kick off your boots and textiles and slip on your shoes and jacket, sorted Thumbs Up

I wear my Lidl textiles over clothes.. I don't have to wear a suit to work, fortunately, but I'd happily wear my suit trousers and shirt/tie under the textiles, and keep a pair of shoes and a jacket at work.
