Hi Guys

Just bought a 1998 (S reg) Thundercat which is great, but it's got a 5 speed gearbox. Not really a problem at all but I thought these had 6 speed boxes as most bikes this era did (my '96 GPZ500 was 6 speed).

Could someone shed some light on this subject - was it an option to have a six speed, which is better etc and anymore information would be great

M

Hi

Certainly should be a 6 speed gearbox. Sounds like the bike has gearbox problems.

The gearbox in the 1000 was a 5 speed item.

All the best

Keith

That's interesting!

I have been investigating this on the net - saw this site which states a 5 speed box.

https://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf_600_r_thundercat_2000.php

The gearbox is very smooth, does not pop of second etc (as I would expect for a bike with only 6500 miles on the clock with FSH)

Weird!! Perhaps I've lost the ability to count to six!!!
