Speedfight... Can it be my immobiliser?!?

Ok, so I was riding my 2002 Speedfight 2 the other day, when all of a sudden, it just cut out on me. No noises, no bangs, just cut out and stopped dead as I was slowing down approaching a junction... It had been doing this quite a bit recently, but usually pulling out the key or resetting the fuse fixes this; but this time it wouldn't start up again! Sad

There is plenty of fuel and oil in it...
It DOES have a very weak spark...
The engine sounds as if it's trying to start, but just won't catch on! The engine is turning over but sounds as if it just won't spark... (And my spark plug is BRAND NEW!)
Neither electric or kickstart works, when I do try the electric start though and rev at the same time, I can kind of here a quiet noise that gets louder the more I rev...
My immobiliser light is working (i think, when I put the key in and turn it, the light flashes twice quickly, then goes out, is this right?) and the horn and lights all work, so it can't be the battery... (Can it?)

I got a SPEEDFIGHT2 and it floods on me regularly and wont be able to get it to start for friggin ages.

what I do is take the sparkie out and push the starter motorto empty the cylinder head of petrol and then let it stand for 10 minutes. put the sparkie back in and try start it again without giving it any throttle.

a set of mole grips now permenantly live under my seat.

well check the spark then your ignition coil may have let go.
take the sparkie out, leave it in the coil, block the hole with a clothe and press the start button whilst holding the sparkie near the engine and see if you get an electric arc. if you with a 1-2cm gap thats sign of a strong spark, if you dont get anything or hardly anything. try your old plug and see if its any better. if it is, then you sparkie is a buggered if theirs no difference in spark strength, then replace the coil.

Its not the battery or immobiliser, if the lights didnt flash twice then I'd be worried about that.

If you were reinserting the fuses to help start the bike previously then give the electric once over just try and find any crap or build up on the connection and clean them with a bit of cloth and WD40.

the noise you were getting when holding the throttle open was petrol splashing about in the engine.

I still wouldnt be surprised if its just flooded I had to leave the sprakie out for about 2 hours once coz i flooded it that bad.

what a pitty it hasnt got gears u cud bump start it. Check your carb has no water in it.

sounds like the float valve needle may be stuck.

To test for this, kick it without the ignition on. Take the spark plug out and if its soggy or the gap is bridged by fluid, you may have a sticky float valve. If the fluid on the plug is cloudy, you may have a blown gasket.

dodgy ht lead or coil? Id be looking for broken wires/corroded connections somewere too..

Thanks for your help everyone, is there a way to check the coil so I don't have to buy one and find it isn't the coil that's actually knackered?

Would I be able to buy JUST the coil, or is it linked in with the immobiliser?

well one of the main reasons i suspect is that your using the red key as you state the light flashes twice so its in programming mode.
you say the spark is weak, try this old trick on pugs lift out the plastic panel at back as tho u want to get at the rear lights you coil is there swap over the wires on coil see if any difference if not replace back.
on the ht lead unscrew the cap and using a pair if insulated pliers hold the lead approx 1/4 " away from engine etc and see if it jumps the gap, if not cut 1/4" inch off the end of lead and retry.
if all that fails well its your cdi blown due to using the red key.
i do loads of them and its always the same thing.
the sf2 is a 12vdc system whereas the sf1 is a ac system and cant be swapped over easy.
