Hi

Presume they mean YZF600 (ie, Thundercat) and the R6.

All the best

Eh?

YZF600 is a Thundercat, which is an entirely different animal to an R6.

YZF600R is an R6.

pmsl @ Kickstarts avatar! Laughing

Im getting quotes from Bennetts and its asking me whether its a Thundercat or YZF 600 R6 or a YZF R6?

R6 is £400 to insure
YZF 600 R6 is £2500
Thundercat is £500 ish

Hmmm Confused

There's alot of difference.

Few specifications:

Yamaha YZF-R6 (1999)

Power: 120.00 HP (87.6 kW)) @ 13000 RPM

Torque: 68.00 Nm (6.9 kgf-m or 50.2 ft.lbs) @ 11500 RPM

Speed etc.

Top speed: 250.0 km/h (155.3 mph)
0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 3.400 seconds
60-140 km/h (37-87 mph), highest gear: 10.600 seconds

Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat (1999)

Power: 98.00 HP (71.5 kW)) @ 11500 RPM

Torque: 66.00 Nm (6.7 kgf-m or 48.7 ft.lbs) @ 9500 RPM

Speed etc.

Top speed: 236.0 km/h (146.6 mph)
0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 3.300 seconds
60-140 km/h (37-87 mph), highest gear: 10.600 seconds

These are the 1999 models as you can see, there is quite a difference between the two.

Christ knows, but pick one of the two.

Yamaha YZF-R6:

Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat:

https://dodrt.dod.no/006/images/yzf600.jpg

Don't use Bennetts for quotes is my rule of thumb, and I've never heard of a 'Yamaha YZF 600 R6 Extreme Power' sounds like a racebike, prototype or a pisstake.

Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Surely that's an oversight? With the lower weight and the extra power, I thought the R6 would be quicker off the line.

Edit: By the way, the Thundercat is a much better beginners' bike. I should know. Wink

Just quoting the stats mate.

www.bikez.com Remember these are the stats from a website and aren't official and the bikes are 1999 models. Wink

just find it odd they have 3 bikes listed when there's only to YZF models?

£431 is my quote, but for a Suzy GSX6R its £1330, same for a Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja.

I think I may have found a loop hole?

The Thundercat is in a lower insurance group than those other two - so not a loophole as such but definitely a way to get cheaper insurance.

Insurance groups:

YZF 600 (Thundercat) 599cc Group 14
YZF R6 599cc Group 15
GSXR 600 599cc Group 14
ZX -6R 599cc Group 14

That's actually quite surprised me, thought the ZX6R and GSXR would be on par with YZF-R6's insurance wise.

No idea, could just be your circumstances coming up cheaper - don't settle with that quote though, try other companies such as www.4counties.co.uk (Ring them) and www.e-bikeinsurance.co.uk who are also good, if you try CIA insurance they may be able to beat your quote, it's all about haggling and playing them off against one another to get the best price.

In that case ring CIA because they promise to knock a significant percentage off your quote, are you definitely sure this quote of £431 is for an R6 and not a Thundercat?

No mate that's a Thundercat.

I would go for the 'Cat anyway seen as it's a good first big bike and will take better to the restriction I think.
