my standard can is dented and scratched so im probably gonna replace it with something off ebay.

rather than throw it away, would it be possible to rip out its innards to it just becomes a hollow tube and effectively a race can ?

id only use it occasionally so i dont want to buy a race can

he'd be appalled

i did think his pernicketyness was a sign that he was thorough and particular, but after i picked my bike up today from being fixed up, someone flashed me over to tell me my back wheel was out of alignment. it seems that triumph mechanic isnt that thorough and when he tightened my chain, he just used the marks on the swingarm to check it was straight.

apparently i was 'crabbing' when going round a left bend and the back wheel is pointing to the right slightly

this other guy is also a mechanic but is an independant so i think i'll go to him another time

independant guy says you can check by putting two planks of wood either side of the wheel and see if they are aligned with the bike

i still want an answer to my question about the can tho

although its occurred to me since posing the question that ripping out the innards may be quite tricky

the best method i can think of is drilling lots of holes in the internal bits until they disintegrate

Remember if you tear it apart you wont have one for MOT.

To make it like a race can you'll need to:-

Take the end off
Take everything out of it.
Fit a bit of perforated pipe down the middle.
Put some exhaust packing in it
Close it up again.

A loud, basic race can.

If your can has a 'double exit' - ie an out and inner bit sticking out, a hole saw around the outer bit can work as you want.

May well even pass MOT, though it's down to their disgression - but it'll still be marked up.

If it's got a baffle stuck inside the can, you could drill the plate that holds it in (through the outlet) and pull it out, would give a louder sound
